Haas geeft Magnussen toestemming om aan Le Mans deel te nemen met vader

Het is een droom van Kevin Magnussen om ooit eens met zijn vader deel te nemen aan de 24 uur van Le Mans. Haas F1 heeft hem toestemming gegeven, maar de Deen wil graag goed voorbereid aan de start verschijnen.

De vader van Kevin is voormalig Formule 1-coureur Jan Magnussen. Op jonge leeftijd maakte hij al de overstap naar de GT-racerij en die overstap heeft hem geen windeieren gelegd. De Deen neemt komend weekend voor de 21ste keer deel aan de 24 uur van Le Mans. Zoon Kevin had graag met zijn vader meegereden en kreeg daarvoor ook toestemming van Haas F1, maar hij wil zich graag optimaal kunnen voorbereiden.

"Ze hebben ingestemd. Het is alleen een kwestie van het vinden van het juiste moment en de juiste kans. Ik wil niet zomaar onvoorbereid instappen. Dat is niet alleen slecht voor mij, maar ook voor m'n vader, omdat hij moet winnen. Ik wil ook in staat zijn om aan de verwachtingen te voldoen en echt iets bij te dragen."

Magnussen wil alleen met vader racen in Corvette

Jan Magnussen won nog nooit het algemene klassement op Le Mans, maar was met Chevrolet Corvette wel vier keer de sterkste in de GT-klasse. Kevin zou dan ook graag met een Corvette willen racen op Le Mans. "Ik zou graag meedoen in een Corvette, want hij rijdt al vijftien, twintig jaar voor Corvette. Dat is zoals hij is en ik zou graag eens een kijkje in zijn wereld nemen."

Een doel heeft Magnussen dan ook al voor zichzelf bepaald: hij wil graag de GT-klasse op Le Mans winnen. "We zouden voor de winst in de klasse gaan. Het zou geweldig zijn om een racewagen te delen en op professioneel niveau samen te werken. We hebben er vaak over gesproken en onze ervaringen gedeeld tijdens het avondeten, maar het zou geweldig zijn om het een keer samen te doen."
