Geen zorgen bij Ricciardo na twaalfde tijd: "Tijden zeggen niet alles"

Ondanks de updates in Frankrijk stond er geen Renault in de top 10 op vrijdag. Daniel Ricciardo maakt zich echter geen zorgen en stelt dat de rondetijden niet laten zien hoe goed de auto voelde.

Renault heeft een flink pakket upgrades meegenomen naar haar thuisrace op Paul Ricard. Aan het bodywork is het een en ander veranderd, maar ook introduceerde het team vervroegd de nieuwe specificatie van haar krachtbron. Desondanks kwamen Ricciardo en Nico Hülkenberg niet verder dan P12 en P14. De uitslag vertelt volgens hem echter niet het volledige verhaal.

"Het was positief, hoewel de rondetijden misschien niet laten zien hoe de auto aanvoelde. Tijdens alle runs leek de auto goed. De kwalificatierun op softs was een beetje listig, vooral met de hoge baantemperaturen. Misschien misten we daardoor wat. De auto voelde niet gebrekkig en ik ben absoluut optimistisch voor zaterdag. De upgrades leken positief, maar we moeten de data bekijken om verdere verbeteringen door te voeren."

Technisch directeur tevreden over tempo op lange runs

Technisch directeur Nick Chester was van mening dat het team er in de eerste vrije training beter uitzag dan tijdens de tweede oefensessie. Daarbij zag hij wel een verschil tussen de lange en de korte runs die het team gedurende de sessies op vrijdag reed.

"Het was een interessante eerste dag. De ochtend was productief, maar in de middag leken we wat snelheid te verliezen. Op de lange runs zagen we er competitief uit, maar we moeten nog snelheid vinden op de korte runs. Het verschil tussen de bandencompounds is hier niet zoals verwacht - er zit niet veel tussen. We moeten de data nu bekijken en de nieuwe upgrades evalueren, zodat we alles samen laten komen."

Ik ben benieuwd. Cyril was toch echt heem stellig dat het in Frankrijk allemaal goed zou komen en het seizoen van Renault echt zou beginnen. Stiekem werd zelfs al gefluisterd over aansluiting vinden richting RB.
Dat laatste lijkt mij erg onwaarschijnlijk maar p6 in de kwali zou een uitstekende prestatie zijn.

  5 overwinningen kan nog. Niet te vroeg juichen. En ik vind het altijd wel wat hebben die Marko aan het begin van het seizoen. RB maakt tenminste wel dingen waar. Niet alles maar dat doet niemand. Bietenboel daarentegen heeft volgens mij nog nooit zijn gelijk gehaald.

  ja en? is dat verboden? Dat is dan een verwachting. Of mag niemand meer iets voorspellen? 5 overwinningen is/was niet zo heel vreemd hoor. Maar bij renault roepen ze al jaren dingen die gewoon helemaal niet uitkomen.

  Blijft toch belangrijk voor jouw @DutchF1 om RB en Max erbij te slepen. Blijft wel cherry picking van jou in de uitspraken van Marko. Denk dat momenteel het realiteitsbesef bij RB groter is dan bij jou.
