Bottas ziet Hamilton pole pakken: "Draait het hele weekend al om milliseconden"

Valtteri Bottas leek in Frankrijk een goede kans op de pole position te hebben, maar het lukte de Mercedes-coureur niet dat voor elkaar te krijgen. Hij moest zijn meerdere erkennen in teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton, die hij bij de start op zondag terug wil pakken.

Bottas was in de eerste twee kwalificatiesessies op het Circuit Paul Ricard de snelste man geweest, maar dat lukte hem niet op het moment dat de knikkers verdeeld werden. Met twee machtige ronden behaalde Hamilton de pole, terwijl Bottas genoegen moest nemen met P2. De nummer 2 van het kampioenschap stelt dat de windrichting in Q3 niet goed paste bij de lijnen die hij reed op het circuit.

"Ik denk dat Lewis aan het einde een erg goede ronde had. Het hele weekend is het erg spannend geweest tussen ons, waarbij het draaide om details en honderdsten van seconden. In de kwalificatie veranderde de wind ineens van richting en daardoor werkte mijn lijn niet goed in een aantal bochten. Uiteindelijk haalde Lewis er vandaag meer uit, maar voor het team is dit een prima resultaat."

Start moet Bottas voorbij Hamilton helpen

Bottas richt zijn pijlen op de start zondag om Hamilton voorbij te kunnen gaan. "We hebben hier dit weekend een enorm sterk pakket en daar kan ik van genieten. Dat zal morgen niet anders zijn. Er is een lange aanloop naar de eerste bocht, dus hopelijk kan ik daar iets mee doen. De start zal voor mij een van de belangrijkste momenten worden, dus daar ga ik me op richten."

Tja Bottas , we zitten weer tegen het midden van het seizoen aan , dan begint Lewis op stoom te raken en is hij op z'n best , morgen waarschijnlijk winst nummer 4 voor Lewis op rij

Toch vreemd hoe dat af en toe werkt in dat hoofd van Bottas met excuses zoeken.
