Steiner: "We begrijpen gewoon niet waarom race pace zo slecht was"

Haas F1 kende tijdens de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk wederom een teleurstellende race. Zowel teambaas Günther Steiner als coureur Kevin Magnussen heeft geen verklaring voor het feit dat de kwalificatie zo goed ging, maar de race zo tegenviel.

Tijdens de wintertests leek Haas F1 misschien we de snelste bolide van de middenmoot te hebben, maar tijdens het seizoen is daar nog maar weinig van gebleken. Op de Red Bull Ring was er wel weer een flard van te zien, want Magnussen posteerde zijn VF-19 op de vijfde plaats in de kwalificatie. In de race viel het echter tegen, want Romain Grosjean werd 16de en Magnussen teleurstellend 19de.

Geen reden gevonden voor matige racepace

Steiner verklaarde na afloop niet te weten hoe dat mogelijk is. "Op deze manier rondrijden is overweldigend, maar niet in positieve zin. Zo'n race hebben na je als vijfde te kwalificeren is niets anders dan zeer teleurstellend. We zullen eraan blijven werken en proberen beter te begrijpen waarom er zo'n verschil zit in de prestaties tussen de kwalificatie en de race. We begrijpen het gewoonweg niet, op dit moment hebben we gewoon geen idee."

Ook Magnussen, die door een gridstraf vanaf P10 vertrok, moet het antwoord schuldig blijven op waarom er zo'n groot verval was tussen kwalificatie en race. "We hadden gewoon geen snelheid in de race, nadat we ons als vijfde kwalificeerden. Het is erg teleurstellend na zo'n goede dag op zaterdag. Het is vreemd en zeer frustrerend. Niets werkte en het voelde behoorlijk hopeloos. Het is nogal verwarrend."

  zeg ik al jaren , Grosjean was goed voor de eerste 2 jaar het zelfde geldt voor Magnussen , ze zijn gewoon niet goed genoeg.

  Denk ook dat de chassis door ontwikkeling gedurende seizoen ook achterblijft. misschien maar kleine dingen word ontwikkeld maar echter de probleem niet opgelost word. uiteindelijk word doorgeschoven naar volgend jaar om het op te lossen, en dan begint de ciclus terug bij af. Denk wel dat de rijders ervaren genoeg is maar details in door ontwikkeling ontbreekt
