Prioriteit Perez ligt bij verlengen contract met Racing Point

Sergio Perez wil graag bij Racing Point blijven. De Mexicaan zegt dat het zijn prioriteit is om daarvoor te zorgen en het liefst zou hij zich voor de lange termijn aan het Canadese team binden.

Na Lewis Hamilton is Perez de coureur die momenteel het langste dienstverband heeft bij zijn huidige team: hij rijdt al sinds 2014 bij het team dat voorheen door het leven ging als Force India. Volgens de coureur zelf is hij dicht bij het tekenen van een nieuw contract en hij gelooft er heilig in dat Racing Point de juiste plek is voor hem in de toekomst.

"Ik denk dat alles rustiger begint te worden", vertelde Perez op de Hungaroring aan onder andere GPToday.net. "Mijn prioriteit is om bij het team te blijven. Er is nog geen deal beklonken, maar we zijn het aan het afronden. Je weet echter dat het in de Formule 1 nooit zeker is, totdat de contracten getekend zijn. Er zijn goede vooruitzichten voor de toekomst, dus ik kijk ernaar uit."

Perez wil graag meerjarige verbintenis tekenen

Meestal tekende Perez jaar na jaar eenjarige verbintenissen, maar met het oog op de reglementen van 2021 wil de 29-jarige en contract met langere looptijd afsluiten. "De vooruitzichten en ambities van het team zijn tegenwoordig erg groot. Het is goed om hier om een deal voor lange termijn te sluiten, omdat ik zie dat het team vooruitgaat. Het werkt voor beiden en willen allebei een langere verbintenis aangaan, dus hopelijk kunnen we het over alles eens worden."

"Als je om je heen kijkt, dan is dit een goede plek om te zijn. Ik herinner me wat voor weekend we hier vorig jaar hadden met de onder curatelestelling en alles dat daarbij hoorde. Nu we hier een jaar later staan en ik zie waar het team heen gaat, dan ben ik daar trots op. Er is nog wat onafgemaakt werk en hoewel ik hier al lange tijd zit, komt er van mijn kant nog meer aan."

  Ik denk dat teams als Haas en Williams hem (en zijn budget) graag zouden willen hebben. Ik zou hem ook wel eens graag in die Haas zien.
