Na afwezigheid in Duitsland keren de Formule 2 en Formule 3 in Hongarije weer terug in het voorprogramma van de Formule 1. Tijdens de kwalificatie van gisteren wist Nyck de Vries zich te verzekeren van de pole position in de Formule 2.

De omstandigheden waren verre van eenvoudig, maar De Vries hield knap zijn hoofd koel op de natte baan, die richting het einde van de sessie langzaamaan wat droger begon te worden. Zo'n vijf minuten voor het einde van de sessie verzekerde De Vries zich van de pole position en de bijbehorende vier punten voor het kampioenschap. Hij was de enige die een ronde onder de 1 minuut en 50 seconden wist te rijden.

Tijdens de hoofdrace van de Formule 2, die straks om 10.10 uur van start gaat op de Hungaroring, ziet De Vries Luca Ghiotto naast zich staan op de grid.
