Ricciardo: "Renault jaagt op revanche na teleurstellende Duitse GP"

Renault is tijdens de Hongaarse Grand Prix uit op wraak na de teleurstellend verlopen Grand Prix van Duitsland zes dagen geleden. Dat stelt Daniel Ricciardo na afloop van de vrije trainingen op de Hungaroring.

Het team uit Enstone had op Hockenheim een dubbele uitvalbeurt: Ricciardo viel weg na een opgeblazen motor, terwijl teamgenot Nico Hülkenberg in de regenachtige condities crashte. Ricciardo gelooft dat er een sterk weekend aankomt voor het team en bevestigt dat ze allemaal vastberaden zijn om terug te slaan na een lastige race in Duitsland.

"Ik denk dat het een goed weekend wordt, we zullen er iets op vinden", vertelde Ricciardo tegen onder andere GPToday.net. "Ik ben hongerig naar een goed resultaat in Hongarije om met momentum de vakantie in te gaan. Nico en ik voelden na Duitsland frustratie, dus dit weekend is een kans op revanche. Het zou mooi zijn als het nat blijft, maar zondag lijkt droger te worden. Morgen lijkt nat en zelfs een natte kwalificatie zou het interessant maken."

Ricciardo blij met extra tijd in regen

Ricciardo eindigde de tweede vrije training op de vijfde positie. De uiteindelijke uitslag van de sessie was echter wat geflatteerd, omdat de 90 minuten durende training na zo'n 20 minuten geraakt werd door steeds harder wordende regen. De Australiër was blij dat hij wat meer in het natte kon rijden tijdens VT2, omdat hij het vorige week in de regen lastig had voordat hij uitviel.

"Vorige week had ik het een beetje lastig tijdens het deel van de race dat ik uiteindelijk reed. Ik was dus eigenlijk blij dat ik was meer kon rijden in die omstandigheden vandaag en het zag er veel veelbelovender uit. Ik was niet blij met hoe het vanochtend in het droge ging, maar de middag was beter. Dat is positief. Boos om het weer ben ik niet. Het was wat van alles en dat hielp ons."

  Inderdaad! Uit zijn interview na de quali blijkt heel veel frustratie naar het team toe. Zijn grootste fout is te vertrouwen op de praatjes van Renault. En voor het geld te gaan. Het zou me niet verbazen als dit huwelijk geen stand houdt. En dan moet ‘ie officieel nog een seizoen... Ben benieuwd of dat hij het uitdient...
