Ricciardo teruggezet naar laatste startplaats door volledige motorwissel

Daniel Ricciardo maakte geen goede indruk tijdens de kwalificatie voor de Hongaarse Grand Prix met de achttiende tijd. Hij zal vanaf de laatste plek starten, omdat Renault besloten heeft om hem een heel nieuwe motor te geven.

Daar waar Renault-teamgenoot Nico Hülkenberg zich naar de elfde startpositie trainde, kwam Ricciardo niet door Q1. De zevenvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar zag zijn laatste poging mislukken door een opstopping van auto's voor de laatste bocht. Daar wilde de Renault-coureur omheen rijden, maar hij kwam slecht het rechte stuk op en verloor uiteindelijk zijn laatste poging.

Ricciardo had de achttiende tijd gereden tijdens Q1, maar hij zal vanaf de laatste positie gaan starten. Renault heeft besloten om een vierde verbrandingsmotor, turbo en MGU-H in zijn bolide te monteren, terwijl hij ook zijn derde MGU-K, energy store en control electronics krijgt. De stewards hebben inmiddels bevestigd dat Ricciardo daardoor de race vanaf de laatste plek moet starten.

Ricciardo probeerde Hamilton te volgen in kwalificatie

Na de kwalificatie baalde Ricciardo nog flink van de gang van zaken aan het eind van Q1. Tevens vertelde hij dat hij Lewis Hamilton probeerde te volgen in de aanloop naar de laatste snelle ronde, maar dat plan mislukte nadat hij zij-aan-zij met Sergio Perez het rechte stuk op kwam gereden.

"We werden aan het eind van de ronde een beetje gepakt. Ik had er net met de engineers over gesproken en ze zeiden dat ik een redelijke buffer had tot de vlag, dus ik wist dat ik langzamer kon gaan. Wat ik echter niet verwachtten was de trein auto's voor de laatste bocht. Op dat moment wist ik niet hoeveel auto's hun ronde nog moesten starten, dus ik ging op mijn eigen tempo om de banden warm te houden."

"Tegen de tijd dat ik bij de laatste sector kwam, zag ik iedereen. Ik wist niet wat ik moest doen: moest ik afremmen en de banden te veel laten afkoelen? Ik zag Lewis gaan en hij kreeg een duidelijk gat, dus ik besloot ook te gaan. Ik ging voorbij Grosjean en ik dacht dat ik Perez kon pakken, maar we gingen zij aan zij door de laatste bocht. Dat is eerlijk gezegd allemaal irrelevant. Ik had het beter kunnen doen tijdens de outlap, maar het gaat vooral om het weten waar iedereen was."

Het geld moet wel goed zijn daar.
Onbegrijpelijk dat Ric zich zelf dit aandoet hij had de hele F1 op zijn kop kunnen gaan zetten met max nu rb enhonda de opgaande lijn te pakken hebben.

  Op youtube van @utosport hebben ze de claim van de manager van ricc bestudeert en kwamen tot de conclusie dat de claim van 10miljoen inkomstenderving 20% is van zn 2 jarige deal bij renault. Reken maar uit hoeveel hij dan verdient ;) ....ik zou het iig voor de helft al doen

Ik had niet beter verwacht de prestaties bij Renault, dus dan zou Daniel het toch ook wel geweten hebben, maar goed hij krijgt er goed voor betaald, hij hoeft niet te klagen over Renault.

Renault had hem beloofd top ontwerpers van andere teams binnen te halen, maar dat is niet echt gelukt / gebeurt.

Het enige wat hij zichzelf kan verwijten is dat hij onderhand had moeten weten dat de Franse renstal vooral veel aan grootspraak en beloftes doet, maar daar vaak nog niet de helft van waarmaakt.

Wat extra lullig is, is dat Ricciardo ook een aanbieding van McLaren op zak had voor de stoel waar Sainz nu in zit. En omdat ik Ricciardo wat hoger inschat dan Carlos had hij met McLaren onderhand iedere GP met Gasly kunnen strijden en dan ook bij een team gezeten dat echt stappen omhoog maakt.
