Magnussen: "Ik heb niets tegen Hülkenberg, maar juist veel respect voor hem"

Kevin Magnussen had in 2017 een veelbesproken confrontatie met Nico Hülkenberg, maar volgens de coureur van Haas F1 is er absoluut geen sprake van een vete of een doorlopende ruzie met de Renault-coureur.

De kiem voor het verhaal werd gelegd bij de Hongaarse Grand Prix van 2017. Magnussen en Hülkenberg kwamen elkaar op het asfalt tegen in een stevig duel, waarna de strijd omsloeg naar een verbaal duel in het vierkantje bij de media. De discussie eindigde nadat Magnussen 'suck my balls, honey' zei tegen Hülkenberg uit onvrede over een klacht van de Duitser, die klaagde over de rijstijl van de Deen.

Magnussen 'heeft veel respect' voor coureur Hülkenberg

Lang werd er daarna gedacht dat Magnussen en Hülkenberg elkaar niet mochten, maar daar is volgens de Haas-coureur absoluut geen sprake van. Hij benadrukt juist veel respect te hebben voor de kwaliteiten die de Duitser heeft als coureur, maar tegelijkertijd stelt hij tegenover Auto Motor und Sport ook dat hij een persoonlijke band heeft met hem.

"Ik zou niet zeggen dat we een onderlinge relatie hebben. We zijn tegenstanders op het circuit en geen vrienden. Natuurlijk heb ik veel respect voor zijn kunnen op de baan. Hij is zeer getalenteerd, een complete coureur. Ik heb echt niets tegen hem. Dit hele verhaal, en het feit dat ik er nog steeds vragen over krijg, laat zien wat er mis is met deze mediawereld."

"Natuurlijk begrijp ik waarom mensen dit soort verhalen lezen. Maar als het niet opgepikt was door de camera's, zouden Nico en ik er nu niet meer over nadenken. Er werd teveel gewicht aan gehangen. Ik wil duidelijk maken dat ik veel respect heb voor Nico en dat ik niets persoonlijks tegen hem heb. Ik ken hem niet als mens, maar ik heb nooit iemand iets slechts over hem horen zeggen. Punt."

  Ah je was me net voor xd xd.. Als je zo begint te downplayen over een andere collega/coureur zit het er wel dik in dat deze volgend jaar naast je rijdt.

  Niemand zal Hulkenberg missen... Grosjean probeert iedergeval nog wel is wat... lukt wel nooit meer , maar ja, mogen van mij allebei een andere hobby gaan zoeken ,,, Grosjean kookt al, Hulkenberg is prima coureur voor endurance races,, misschien samen met Sainz, heel veel rondjes gaan rijden, want dat kunnen ze wel...

  Bschuit, eens betreft Hulkenberg en Grosjean. Ik weet dat je weinig met Sainz op hebt en jouw stelling klopte tot voor halverwege vorig seizoen ook, maar hij heeft zeker dit seizoen toch een aantal knappe inhaalacties begaan.

  Je moet toch iets om ons te blijven voeden. Ik kijk (verslaafd) 20x per dag op deze site. Beter iets ouds, dan niets nieuws. Soms kan een oud artikel ook weer leuke discussies opleveren.
