Robert Kubica onzeker over toekomst in Formule 1

Williams-coureur Robert Kubica zegt dat hij niet zeker weet of hij een toekomst heeft in de Formule 1 na 2019. Na een gat van acht jaar met zijn permanente armblessure, keerde de inspirerende Pool dit jaar terug naar de F1. Hij heeft het samen met zijn nieuwe teamgenoot George Russell bij Williams erg moeilijk gehad.

Teambaas Claire Williams zegt dat ze blij is met de 34-jarige Pool, ook al eindigt hij bijna altijd als laatste. Ondanks de sterke steun van zijn sponsor PKN Orlen, suggereren sommigen dat Kubica duidelijk moeite zal hebben om zijn plaats voor 2020 te behouden.

Geduld is een schone zaak

Kubica zelf reageert op de berichten en blijft rustig: "Ik weet niet wat ik in 2020 zal doen. Er zijn nog geen details bekend. We hebben wel bepaalde plannen maar niet alles hangt af van mij.  We zullen zien hoe het gaat. De situatie is zoals elk jaar, het is noodzakelijk om geduld te hebben."

Ik heb groot respect voor Robert en het is bijzonder hoe hij zich heeft terug gevochten ondanks zijn blessure. Maar het is inmiddels duidelijk dat hij niet meekan in het huidige formule 1-veld.

    Denk dat hij het beste kan vertrekken bij Williams. Russell rijdt hem om zijn oren en ik denk dat hij toch te veel last/nadeel heeft van zijn arm. Neemt niet weg dat de Williams gewoon een hele slechte auto is.

      Ik denk dat hij de eer aan zichzelf moet houden en ermee stoppen.
      Hij heeft al bewezen dat een terugkeer na 8 jaar met een handicap een mogelijkheid is, al reed hij steeds achteraan en ongeveer 4 sec per ronde trager dan de top coureurs.
      Tot nu toe heeft hij nog weinig imago schade opgelopen, daarom de eer aan zichzelf houden en bedanken.
      Het ziet er echt niet naar uit dat Williams volgend jaar ineens het licht zien en vooraan mee gaan doen, mocht dat wel gebeuren dan vrees ik dat Kubica helemaal op een paar ronden gereden word door het hele veld ,incl teammaat.
      Dat lijkt mij funest voor hem.

      Misschien is het niet eens zijn gekwetste arm / hand, maar gewoon het niet meer hebben.
      Wat je vaker ziet bij coureurs in de loop van de tijd.
      Zelf een MSC heeft het gekend.
      Dus inderdaad afscheid nemen de beste optie.

    Misschien is het handig om Ocon onder te brengen bij Williams voor Mercedes.
    Heb je meteen een shootout in je jeugdpool.
    Nog 1 jaar Bottas (saai, ik weet het) en daarna Russell of Ocon laten promoveren.

    Dat Kubica niet snel genoeg zou zijn was bijna te voorspellen al weet je het maar nooit. Buiten dat hij een zak geld meebracht bracht hij ook nog eens een bak aan autosport ervaring mee, ook niet onbelangrijk.

    Hoezo onzeker? Met deze prestaties weet hij toch zeker dat hij volgend jaar niet meer in de F1 rijdt? Meer zekerheid kun je je niet wensen volgens mij. Of weet hij niet zeker of hij weer een Poolse magnaat zo gek kan krijgen om een stoeltje voor hem te kopen?

    Hij heeft het gewoon niet meer en dat moet hij inzien. Van de andere kant doet hij het niet heel slecht tegenover Russell, door zijn beperking, leeftijd en dat hij 8 jaar eruit heeft gelegen. Dus de vraag is hoe goed Russell dan eigenlijk is, want het is niet zo dat hij hem echt zoek rijdt.

      Hij doet het niet slecht tegen Russel? Vraag me af hoeveel trager hij nog moet rijden om het wél slecht te doen dan. Al de rest zijn excuses. Al had ie maar één arm en had ie 20 jaar niet gereden. Als je op topniveau wil meedoen, moet je op topniveau presteren. Er zijn genoeg raceklassen om met zijn handicap wél mee te doen en dat stoeltje aan iemand te geven die het wél verdient.
