Veel gridstraffen verwacht tijdens Belgische Grand Prix

Voor zover bekend zullen er minimaal zes coureurs dit weekend te maken krijgen met gridstraffen als gevolg van motorwissels. De gridstraf volgt omdat de coureurs het maximale aantal items overschreden hebben.

Zoals verwacht gaat Alexander Albon, die zijn debuut maakt bij Red Bull Racing, naar de achterkant van de startgrid. De Thaise-coureur heeft de 'pool' van Pierre Gasly overgenomen en krijgt dit weekend een vierde ICE (interne verbrandingsmotor), een vierde TC (Turbo), een vierde motorgenerator (MGU-H) een derde kinetische motor (MGU-K) en een derde controle-unit (CE).

Ook Daniil Kvyat, die een vijfde ICE, vijfde Turbo, vijfde MGU-H en één vijfde MHGU-K laat plaatsen, zal achteraan de grid worden verwacht.

Racing Point kent met coureurs Lance Stroll en Sergio Perez eveneens een waslijst aan straffen. Beide coureurs zullen een nieuwe verbrandingsmotor, turbo en MGU-H moeten laten plaatsen. Voor Perez zijn de druiven extra zuur, de Mexicaan viel gisteren aan het einde van de tweede vrije training stil met een brandende auto.

Voor de Renault aangedreven coureurs Carlos Sainz, Nico Hulkenberg en Daniel Ricciardo volgen eveneens straffen. Deze coureurs laten een nieuwe ICE plaatsen. Hun straffen zullen 'milder' zijn dan die van de Honda en Mercedes aangedreven coureurs.

Mogelijke gridstraf Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen en Pierre Gasly kunnen, bij het gebruik van een vierde generatie Honda-motor, eveneens een straf verwachten.

* Het is nog onbekend in het geheel of Racing Point ervoor kiest om nieuwe onderdelen op de auto van Sergio Perez te plaatsen, naar verwachting zal men op Spa-Francorchamps toch de 'pijn' willen nemen om in Monza een betere kans te hebben.

Hmmmm. Mochten Max en Gasly ook de straffen pakken, dan betekent dit als ik het goed lees dat 6 rijders om de laatste 6 plekken strijden. In potentie betekent dat plek 14 voor Max. Kwalificatie is zeer waarschijnlijk plek 5. Negen verschil, maar wel met twee niet presterende Williams auto's er voor. Misschien toch maar doen dan.

  Als Max nu als laatste ook zou wisselen dan start hij volgens mij helemaal achteraan en de coureurs die al veel eerder hebben besloten die schuiven dan volgens mij naar voren op.
  Toch zou ik als ik Max was ook hier kiezen voor een gridstraf als VT3 ook te weinig oplevert.

  @Tifoso-01. Dat was de regel vorig jaar. Nu schijnt de kwalificatie te bepalen waar je staat bij meerdere 'to the back of the grid"-straffen.
