Coureurs in afwachting van besluit over DRS-zone voor Sepang

De internationale autosportbond FIA heeft een paar dagen voor de Grand Prix van Maleisië nog niet definitief aangegeven waar de beweegbare achtervleugel zondag in de race ingezet mag worden. De rijders leven in de veronderstelling dat de zone voor het Drag Reduction System (DRS) op het rechte stuk voor start en finish richting bocht 1 komt te liggen.

Ferrari-coureur Felipe Massa: De situatie met de beweegbare achtervleugel is interessant hier. Op dit moment is het plan om DRS alleen toe te staan op het rechte stuk langs de pits, maar op Sepang is het rechte stuk aan de andere kant van de hoofdtribune eigenlijk langer. De juiste beslissing zou de race voor coureurs en toeschouwers interessanter kunnen maken. Persoonlijk ben ik van mening dat DRS op beide rechte stukken niet de beste oplossing is, dat zou inhalen te makkelijk maken. De balans om inhalen te bevorderen zonder dat je daarbij doorschiet is belangrijk. Op Sepang volgen de twee rechten stukken elkaar op, dus je kan kiezen om op het eerste stuk niet in te halen om jezelf zo goed mogelijk te positioneren voor een simpele inhaalactie op het volgende stuk.
