Perez: "Seizoen nu echt begonnen na goede resultaten in België en Italië"

Sergio Perez heeft na de zomerstop twee goede races achter de rug. Door die sterke resultaten stelt hij dat zijn seizoen 'nu echt begonnen' is en reist hij met vertrouwen af naar Singapore.

Met nog zeven races voor de boeg in 2019 staat Perez op de dertiende positie in het kampioenschap met 27 punten. Meer dan de helft van die punten scoorde de Mexicaan na de zomerstop: in België werd hij sterk zesde, terwijl hij in Italië een sterke race vanuit de achterhoede bekroonde met een zevende plaats. Dat zorgt voor het nodige vertrouwen bij de Racing Point-coureur.

Perez stelt dat de sterke resultaten in België en Italië niet behaald werden in weekenden die makkelijk verliepen. Hij stelt dat zijn seizoen nu echt begonnen is. "Spa en Monza waren geen makkelijke weekenden, maar we scoorden belangrijke punten en het voelt alsof mijn seizoen nu echt begonnen is. Het harde werk in de fabriek betaalt zich uit en we doen het op het asfalt ook goed.

De goede resultaten zorgen ook voor een goede sfeer binnen Racing Point. Perez: "Er heerst nu een geweldig gevoel in het team: een goede sfeer en we kijken erg uit naar de rest van het jaar. Ik heb door de jaren heen goed gereden in Singapore. Het is een circuit waar ik van hou en over het algemeen hou ik van de meeste stratencircuits. Je moet agressief en precies zijn en het is een circuit waar je als coureur echt het verschil kan maken."

Ja, op banen waar de Racing Point/Force India altijd goed gaat. DIe geweldige updates hebben ze op 'normale' banen maar weinig gebracht.

Volgens mij was hij vorig jaar flink aan het stoeien met Sirotkin in de achterhoede waarbij hij een tijdstraf kreeg en het jaar ervoor hing hij met Ocon in de muur... Dus zo heel goed was het ook alweer niet...
