Bottas niet bezig met achterstand in kampioenschap: "Bekijk het per race"

Valtteri Bottas denkt dat het voor hem op dit moment beter is om zich te richten op zijn doelen voor de korte termijn dan op het grote gat naar teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton in de titelstrijd.

De Mercedes-coureur heeft momenteel een achterstand van 63 punten op Hamilton, terwijl er in 2019 nog maar zeven races te rijden zijn. Met zijn achterstand is Bottas wel de naaste belager van zijn teamgenoot in het kampioenschap. Vorig jaar was dat nog anders: Hamilton streed toen met Sebastian Vettel om de titel en Bottas schikte zich in een rol als 'wingman', waarmee hij Hamilton richting de titel hielp.

"Natuurlijk geeft het een iets ander gevoel, nu ik weet dat alles mogelijk is voor aanvang van dit weekend", vertelde Bottas aan onder andere GPToday.net. "Hij is wat ver weg qua punten, maar het is beter om daar niet te veel aan te denken. Ik richt me op doelen voor de korte termijn, ieder raceweekend. Ik heb veel geleerd van vorig jaar, toen was het hier een lastige race. Ik startte op P4 en werd ook vierde."

'Alles kan gebeuren in Singapore'

Bottas voegde daaraan toe dat hij verwacht dat 'alles mogelijk is' dit weekend op het Marina Bay Circuit, waar Mercedes nog nooit een dubbelzege behaald heeft. "De auto is altijd een belangrijke factor, maar dit weekend zijn er meer variabelen. Het zijn een aantal interessante jaren geweest, zeker dat jaar met de regen enzovoorts."

"Er is dit weekend van alles mogelijk. De prestaties van de auto's ligt misschien dichterbij elkaar, dus veel hangt af van de kwalificatie. We zullen ons beiden goed moeten kwalificeren om dat voor elkaar te krijgen, want de race in normaal gesproken een eenstopper. We moeten ervoor zorgen dat de banden het houden. Er zullen echter ook safety cars komen en dingen gebeuren, dus het wordt niet makkelijk om een dubbelzege te scoren. We zullen proberen het voor elkaar te krijgen."

Valtteri is niet constant genoeg om serieus in het WDC mee te doen.. Hij is te vaak langzamer dan Lewis, vooral in de races.. Gaat geen 2e Nico Rosberg worden denk ik..
