Max Verstappen: "Moeten dit weekend in alle sectoren erbij zitten"

Max Verstappen heeft er vertrouwen in dat hij er dit weekend in Rusland goed bij kan zitten. Het geheim is volgens de Nederlander niet om op een deel van het circuit uit te blinken, maar er overal goed bij te staan.

Op papier lijken de krachtsverhoudingen dit weekend in Sochi een ABC'tje. In de eerste sector zal topsnelheid de doorslag geven en dat is dit jaar het terrein van de Ferrari's, terwijl op papier de Mercedessen en Red Bulls beter uit de voeten kunnen in de bochtigere tweede en derde sectoren. Na de Grand Prix van Singapore lijkt die verdeling echter niet helemaal meer op te gaan, omdat Ferrari ook op het bochtige stratencircuit ineens uit de voeten kon.

Verstappen gelooft zelf ook niet in zo'n verdeling van de sectoren. Volgens de Red Bull-coureur is het op het Sochi Autodrom zaak om niet in een van de sectoren uit te blinken, maar juist over een hele ronde gelijkmatig te presteren. "Het lijkt mij dit weekend niet nodig om in een van de sectoren sectoren het snelste te zijn. Als we overal prima presteren, dan zal het er niet verkeerd uitzien."

Verstappen kan 'in goede auto' verschil maken in regen

Daarnaast zouden alle verwachtingen dit weekend wel eens door het putje gespoeld kunnen worden, want de verwachting is dat het op zaterdag en zondag gaat regenen in de Russische plaats aan de Zwarte Zee. De coureur kan zich in dat geval meer onderscheiden dan op het droge, maar volgens Verstappen is het wel belangrijk dat de auto vertrouwen geeft op een natte baan.

"De coureur kan zich natuurlijk op zijn gemak voelen in de regen, maar je voelt je niet op je gemak als je niet de auto ervoor hebt. Als wij een goede auto hebben in de regen, dan voel ik me goed en kan ik het verschil maken. Laten we echter de zaterdag afwachten hoe het zich gaat ontvouwen."

Lekker het verschil maken op een kletsnatte baan, goede afstelling en je lekker voelen in de auto, dan maken die 5 plaatsen terug geen drol uit, gewoon mazzel hebben met het weer.
