Red Bull, Ferrari en Mercedes testen deze week banden voor Pirelli

Pirelli werkt in de week voorafgaand aan de Grand Prix van Japan nog een bandentest af. Red Bull Racing, Ferrari en Mercedes komen vandaag en morgen in actie op het Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Vrijdagochtend moeten de coureurs en teams present zijn als de vrije trainingen voor de Japanse Grand Prix beginnen, maar deze week hebben de drie topteams nog wel tijd gevonden om tests voor Pirelli uit te voeren. Op het Circuit de Catalunya, de locatie waar ook de Spaanse Grand Prix verreden wordt, komen drie beste teams van de Formule 1 in actie om de banden voor 2020 te testen.

Red Bull Racing en Ferrari komen vandaag de baan op in Spanje en daarvoor zetten beide teams een vaste coureur in. Daar waar Max Verstappen al naar Japan vertrokken is, werkt Alexander Albon vandaag rondjes af voor Pirelli. Datzelfde doet Sebastian Vettel, alleen de Duitser neemt daarvoor plaats in de SF90.

De test krijgt dinsdag een vervolg. Ferrari en Red Bull hebben hun spullen dan alweer gepakt, maar dat geldt niet voor Mercedes. De leiders in het kampioenschap zetten dinsdag niet een van hun vaste coureurs in, maar laten Esteban Ocon de test voor hun rekening nemen. Daarnaast zal ook een testauto van de Formule 2 op het circuit aanwezig zijn om verdere tests uit te voeren met de 18-inch banden, die vanaf 2020 verplicht worden in die klasse.

  Gelukkig hebben de coureurs mensen die ervoor zorgen dat ze weinig last hebben van jetlags.

Beetje raar dat ze in 2020 al op 18” over stappen, als notabene 2021 toch een compleet nieuw type chassis nodig is ... Lijkt me dat er dan voor 2020 onnodig veel kosten gemaakt moeten worden om wielophanging (veering schokdemping) en dergelijke aan te passen voor de grotere wielen en vooral het compleet andere karakter van de lagere 18” banden...

  Dit is al een hele tijd bekend Pirelli stapt aankomend jaar bewust met de F2 al over naar de 18" zodat ze er alvast ervaring mee op kunnen doen...
