Max Verstappen terug op plek van F1-debuut: "De Japanse steun is geweldig"

Max Verstappen keert komend weekend in Japan terug op de plek waar zijn Formule 1-carrière in 2014 begon. De Red Bull Racing-coureur wil graag een goed resultaat behalen op het thuiscircuit van Honda.

Suzuka is vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag het decor voor het zeventiende weekend van het huidige Formule 1-seizoen. Het circuit staat bekend als een circuit waar de coureurs nog echt het verschil kunnen maken, want er is weinig ruimte voor fouten. Daarnaast bevat Suzuka, dat door de Nederlander Hans Hugenholtz ontworpen is, de iconische Esses, waar de juiste lijn volgens Verstappen van doorslaggevend belang is.

"Het is erg leuk om er te rijden ik geniet er echt van, maar ik hou ook van Suzuka in het algemeen. Het circuit is erg historisch, krap en snel, dus het is belangrijk om het hele asfalt te gebruiken. Je moet de juiste balans vinden en een goede flow hebben tussen bochten 3 en 6. Als je een van de bochten verkeerd aansnijdt, zit je in de hele reeks bochten daarna in de verkeerde positie."

Verstappen ziet Ferrari als lichte favoriet

Verstappen lijkt Ferrari als de favoriet te zien in Japan, vooral door de sterke motor die het team bezit. Toch vlakt hij zichzelf en Red Bull Racing ook niet helemaal uit. "Ferrari zal erg sterk zijn. Zij hebben enorm veel vermogen en zullen op rechte stukken snel zijn, maar onze auto zal snel zijn in de bochten. Hopelijk kunnen we daar wat tijd winnen."

"De Japanse fans zijn erg gepassioneerd over de sport en het is altijd geweldig om zoveel steun op het circuit te krijgen", zegt Verstappen over de Japanse fans. "Dit jaar zal de Japanse Grand Prix nog meer bijzonder zijn, omdat we bij de thuisrace van Honda zijn. We hebben dit jaar al wat mooie resultaten behaald met Honda. Het zal niet makkelijk worden op Suzuka, maar we willen natuurlijk de best mogelijke prestatie leveren voor onze Japanse fans."

Dus Max gaat zijn chassis lekker perfect afstellen om er vervolgens achter te komen dat hij toch nog een paar tiende tekortkomt op zowel Ferrari en Mercedes.

  Volgens mij is dat wat hij kan doen. Juiste afstelling vinden. Daarna moet hij knallen. Als dan blijkt dat de Ferrari en Mercedes sneller zijn dan is dat zo.

  Het wordt zeer waarschijnlijk een regenrace, als de race doorgaat. Koers van de typhoon is nog steeds recht over het circuit, op zondag.

Zou grappig zijn als Albon op het podium komt in plaats van Max. Maar ik hoop allebei. En max op de hoogste trede wanneer mogelijk :)

  Ik wil Ricciardo terug naar RBR. Gasly en Albon zijn snacks voor tussendoor voor Max. Daniel en Max hadden tenminste een zware kluif aan elkaar. Arghh Danni waarom ben in de valse beloftes van Renault gestonken... waarom..

Ik acht de kans aanwezig dat het helemaal niet doorgaat dit weekend. Tot nu toe zijn de weermodellen zeer bestendig in hun voorspellingen. Dat betekend een windkracht 11/12 en meer dan 200 mm water in een weekend. Leg mij maar uit hoe je dat veilig wil houden voor supporters en coureurs.

En ja de afgelopen tijd werd er wel vaker regen voorspeld en later afgebouwd. Maar op dit moment vrees ik ervoor.

Red Bull kan wel eens gaan verrassen dit weekend vermoed ik.. Honda zal namelijk de boel net iets verder opendraaien dan gebruikelijk.. Dat de motor dan sneller slijt is al meegenomen door in Rusland een extra motor te nemen incl gridstraf.. Al zullen ze ook niet willen dat er een Honda ploft dit weekend.. We gaan het wel zien..
