Toto Wolff bevestigt kleine upgrades voor Mercedes op Suzuka

Mercedes neemt een aantal kleine updates mee naar de Grand Prix van Japan van komend weekend. Dat bevestigde teambaas Toto Wolff in de aanloop naar de race op Suzuka.

Na de zomerstop scoorde Mercedes pas een zege: Lewis Hamilton was anderhalve week geleden in Rusland de sterkste, nadat hij optimaal profiteerde van de virtual safety car en met een stuk minder tijdverlies zijn pitstop kon maken. Daarvoor bleef het team drie races zonder zege, een evenaring van de langste reeks races zonder zege voor Mercedes sinds 2014.

Na de race in Rusland kondigde Wolff al aan dat Mercedes in 2019 geen grote upgrades meer mee gaat nemen naar de races. Desondanks wil het team graag Ferrari de baas zijn in de laatste races van het seizoen. De Scuderia pakte met Charles Leclerc in de vier races na de zomerstop iedere keer de pole position. Daarom neemt Mercedes een aantal kleine upgrades mee naar Suzuka.

"Het pakken van een dubbelzege na drie races zonder zege was een geweldig gevoel. We leverden een sterke race af in Rusland, benutten onze mogelijkheden en zowel Lewis als Valtteri reed foutloos", zei Wolff. "We pakten 44 punten, bouwden onze voorsprong in beide kampioenschappen uit en we zijn enorm gemotiveerd om onze voet op het gaspedaal te houden in de komende vijf races."

"De zege in Sochi verandert niets aan het feit dat Ferrari sterker aan de tweede helft van het seizoen begonnen is dan wij. We zullen wat kleine upgrades meenemen voor de auto in Japan die ons hopelijk helpen om een stap in de goede richting te zetten. We weten echter dat we echt alles uit de auto en de banden moeten halen om mee te kunnen doen voor de overwinning."

  Is ook wel duidelijk dat hij geen monteur is. Hij kan ze beter op de auto bevestigen i.p.v. op Suzuka.

En Max had verwacht dat alleen RBR met een update zou komen, de brandstof. Daar gaan je 1-2 tiende.
