Binotto verwacht vaker onenigheid tussen Leclerc en Vettel

De weigering van Sebastian Vettel om gehoor te geven aan teamorders was het gesprek van de dag na de Russische Grand Prix. Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto verwacht vaker kleine brandjes tussen de Duitser en Charles Leclerc te moeten blussen.

Leclerc kwam afgelopen winter van Sauber over naar Ferrari, waar hij eigenlijk het hele seizoen lang al een goede indruk maakt. Hij weet Vettel het vuur aan de schenen te leggen en staat met twee zeges zelfs derde in het kampioenschap, twee plaatsen voor zijn ervaren teamgenoot. Daar waar de coureurs in de eerste fase van het seizoen goed leken samen te werken, is dat de laatste races niet het geval.

In Italië was er al onenigheid toen Leclerc zich niet aan de afspraak hield en geen slipstream gaf aan Vettel tijdens Q3. Vervolgens was de Monegask in Singapore verbolgen over het feit dat zijn teamgenoot eerder naar de pits mocht en daarmee de leiding nam, terwijl Vettel op zijn beurt dus teamorders negeerde in Rusland.

Gesprekken met Vettel en Leclerc 'constructief'

Na de race in Rusland sprak Binotto beide coureurs op de fabriek van Ferrari, maar hij durft niet uit te sluiten dat er in de toekomst weer onenigheid ontstaat. "Het is niet de eerste keer dat we in Maranello gesproken hebben. Ik heb ze beide gezien deze week, want ze waren in Maranello voor wat activiteiten, zoals de simulator. Volgens mij hebben we positieve, constructieve, eerlijke en transparante discussies gehad."

"Wat er gebeurde in Sochi was niet erg, maar het is zeker iets wat verbeterd en aangepakt moet worden. Ik denk dat het een kans is om iets te leren en het in de toekomst beter te doen. Hoeveel vertrouwen ik erin heb dat het niet nogmaals gaat gebeuren? Dat heb ik niet. Het zijn beide goede coureurs. Ze gaan van start met het doel om zelf te winnen, maar het is belangrijker dat we in ieder geval onderling duidelijkheid hebben."

Binotto kan nou wel doen alsof het het allemaal bij hoort, en hij alles wel onder controle heeft, maar dit kan echt maar zolang duren, en dan houdt het op.
Vettel gaat echt nooit zomaar schikken in een rol als 2e coureur.

Aja, Binotto is net een gemiddelde manager. We hebben vergaderd en afspraken gemaakt maar geen idee of iemand er iets mee doet.

Ik heb het idee dat Seb wat overdondert is door de snelheid van Charlie en nou hem het voor aan de schenen legt. Bij Kimi had Seb veel minder te vrezen. Bij Charlie is dat even wat anders. Ik snap dat ze allebei graag willen winnen. Laten we hopen op veel epische gevechten in de toekomst. We zullen heel wat mooie dingen gaan zien van Charlie. Ik heb Seb altijd een warm hart toegedragen en dat blijf ik ongetwijfeld doen. Ik zelf heb geen idee wat Seb gaat doen. Of hij bij Ferrari blijft, of dat hij naar een andere renstal gaat (misschien RB), of gaat stoppen om van zijn gezin te genieten. Mocht Seb bij Ferrari blijven (dat zal ik zelf toejuichen) vrees ik dat Binotto meer van dat gesprekken zal moeten voeren.

Binotto kan nou wel doen alsof het het allemaal bij hoort, en hij alles wel onder controle heeft, maar dit kan echt maar zolang duren, en dan houdt het op.

Ik heb het originele interview er op nageslagen en ik kan niet anders zeggen: wat een apathisch gel*l! Is dit nu de roerganger bij Ferrari?! Schande! Hij pretendeert niet eens de situatie onder controle te hebben. Hier spreekt weinig tot geen senioriteit en gezag uit.

Ik ben er klaar mee. Laat Vettel en Leclerc elkaar maar van de baan rijden. Dan weet ik in ieder geval zeker dat we, naast een nieuwe coureur, ook een nieuwe teambaas hebben. Deze man is duidelijk te licht voor deze functie.
