Binotto: "Ferrari vastberaden om te winnen na missers in laatste races"

Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto zegt dat zijn team 'vastberaden is om te winnen' tijdens de Grand Prix van Mexico van dit weekend, nadat de resultaten in de afgelopen twee races tegenvielen.

De vorm van Ferrari is sinds de zomerstop over het algemeen goed te noemen. Het team claimde in alle wedstrijden sinds de vakantie de pole position en wist in België, Italië en Singapore ook de races te winnen. In Rusland en Japan ging de winst echter naar Mercedes, ondanks dat Charles Leclerc en Sebastian Vettel de pole positions verdeelden bij deze races.

Ferrari hoopt in Mexico de zesde pole op rij te pakken en dat ook om te zetten in een zege op zondag, zo vertelde Binotto in zijn voorbeschouwing op het raceweekend. "Na twee races waarin we beter hadden kunnen presteren, komen we in Mexico aan met vastberadenheid om te winnen. We mikken op onze zesde opeenvolgende pole en het omzetten daarvan in een overwinning."

Vinden juiste afstelling lastig op hoogte

Het Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez ligt op ruim twee kilometer boven zeeniveau en dat maakt het volgens Binotto lastig om de auto goed af te stellen. "Het Mexicaanse circuit heeft een aantal elementen die je te grazen kunnen nemen. Een aantal hiervan zijn gelinkt aan het feit dat we meer dan 2000 meter boven zeeniveau racen", verklaarde Binotto.

"Dat maakt het finetunen van de afstellingen van het chassis en de motor erg complex, want dit circuit vereist hele specifieke dingen. Het circuit heeft verschillende bochtentypen, maar ook lange rechte stukken waarop jaar na jaar snelheidsrecords gebroken worden. Het noodzakelijke compromis tussen goede topsnelheid en voldoende downforce in de bochten bepaalt de aerodynamische afstelling waarmee we op de baan komen."

Tja, en vervolgens krijg je een bekend verhaaltje over de problemen die nu eenmaak specifiek voor een circuit op hoogte zijn ... Denk dat zijn prioriteiten eerder moeten liggen bij het in het gareel houden/krijgen van zn coureurs ,,, en/of de juiste strategie bepalen....

Men verwacht daar (volgens de simulaties) topsnelheden van 370 km, dat zou vooral Ferrari ten goede kunnen komen met hun mega power engine.
Het is nog wel afwachten wat de hoogte daar voor invloed gaat hebben.

Voor iedereen is turbodruk en koeling een extra aandachtspunt in Mexico. Daarbovenop de aerodynamica. Er is nu nog niks te zeggen.

Als Ferrari met zn batterij-vermogen aan t knoeien is valt het in Mexico nog meer op als ze iedereen zoek rijden... ha ha , zal wat zijn .....

Als ze altijd zo snel zijn als ze zeggen ferrari, moet je het ook wwar maken, ja kwalificatie hebben ze iets op gevonden, maar op de longruns zijn ze altijd nog langzamer als mercedes.
Als je echt sneller bent ga je die gene die voor je rijdt bv bottas/lecler wat ik laats heb gezien, nou kan je dit vertellen lecler heeft 18 ronden achter bottas gezeten met 3 ronden nieuwere softs en toch kon ie bottas niet in halen, zowot ferrari is sneller, ja kwalificatie mischien, maar in de race noway hoor, ik heb het niet gezien in iedergeval

Dan stop eens met die onnozele politiek, afspraken en domme teamorders. Denk eens na hoe het had kunnen lopen als men niet zo onnozel was geweest in Rusland.... Vettel was waarschijnlijk hoe dan ook uitgevallen, daar mogen we vanuit gaan. Maar hoe had het gelopen als men Vettel gewoon zijn gang had laten gaan? Waar was hij dan terecht gekomen en welke kansen had Leclerc dan gehad op de overwinning? Ze hebben natuurlijk ongewild en zonder dit te weten op zichzelf afgeroepen, want Vettel had heel ergens anders kunnen rijden en hierdoor voor een heel andere situatie kunnen zorgen. Wellicht in het voordeel van Leclerc of.....?
