Eenmalige helmen in Verenigde Staten voor Daniel Ricciardo en Carlos Sainz

Daniel Ricciardo en Carlos Sainz zijn dit weekend tijdens de Amerikaanse Grand Prix niet te herkennen aan hun gebruikelijke helmkleuren. Beide coureurs racen met een speciaal helmontwerp op het Circuit of the Americas.

Ricciardo staat bekend als een groot liefhebber van Texas en de Austin. "Het eerste jaar dat we hier kwamen, werd ik verliefd op de plek, de mensen en de sfeer; het is precies naar mijn smaak!" vertelt Ricciardo ter introductie van zijn eenmalige helmontwerp. Dat ontwerp is geïnspireerd op het helmontwerp van de American Football-spelers van het universiteitsteam van de University of Texas Longhorns.

Sainz viert intussen in de Verenigde Staten zijn 100ste Grand Prix in de Formule 1, net zoals Max Verstappen dat doet. Ter ere van dat jubileum heeft de Spanjaard gekozen voor een grotendeels zwarte helm met aan beide zijkanten rode en gele versieringen, een verwijzing naar de kleuren van de Spaanse vlag.

Hier is in het geval van Daniël sprake van.

De helm van Daniël is niet eenmalig!
Op medische gronden mag altijd van helm gewisseld worden.
Hier is in het geval van Daniël sprake van.
Hij heeft een medische aandoening genaamd
Laternus difficultus. Dat houdt in dat zijn hoofd (weliswaar minimaal natuurlijk) meerdere vormen kan aannemen afhankelijk van externe en interne veranderingen. Met name stress en de werking van het immuunsysteem zijn hierop van invloed.
Bij Danny hebben de afgelopen maanden er stevig ingehakt met als gevolg dat hij een punthoofd heeft ontwikkeld bij Renault.
Zijn helm is dus niet eenmalig! veranderd.
Dat geldt wel voor de livery. Die mag niet constant gewisseld worden, zelfs niet op medische gronden.

  Sinds Ricciardo's overstap naar Renault is hij door alle frustraties nogal een 'heethoofd' geworden, aangezien algemeen bekend is dat donkere kleuren meer warmte opnemen dan licht kleuren is gekozen voor een geheel witte helm, om Daniël's hoofd maar zo koel mogelijk te houden..
  Carlos Sainz daarentegen is van zichzelf al zo cool als wat en kan veilig kiezen voor een grotendeels zwarte butsmuts zonder dat de temperaturen in de bovenkamer te ver oplopen..

  Ook dat verhaal klopt. Met name het koelingsproblemen gedeelte. Het klopt dan ook dat er voor wit is gekozen om extra warmte af te voeren.
  Dat hangt weer samen met het rembalans verhaal.
  Het bleek namelijk dat Renol niet alleen de rembalans automatisch instelde maar ook anticipeerde op de krachten die daarmee samengingen. Na een sterke afremming heeft het lichaam het zwaarder en loopt de temperatuur op.
  Na elke sterke afremming gaf de auto automatisch wat extra vocht via de drinkslang.
  Nu het systeem verboden is werkt de automatische drinkslang dus ook niet meer. Afgelopen weekend zagen we al dat de temperaturen bij Danny en Nico flink opliepen en Danny te weinig vocht binnenkreeg wat weer voor extra zwelling in het punthoofd gedeelte zorgde. Na afloop kreeg hij zijn helm nauwelijks meer af. Slechts na het gebruik van een tube glijmiddel lukte dat.
  Daarom is er nu een nieuwe helm met nieuwe witte livery. Ook is de drinkslang nu rechtstreeks gekoppeld aan het rempedaal. Dus remmen=drinken.
  Ik hoop dat het nu allemaal wat duidelijker is geworden voor iedereen.

  Dat waren na de race in Mexico inderdaad even angstige en benauwde momenten voor Daniël Ricciardo, maar dankzij de 'feestjes' die de coureurs en monteurs onderling na iedere gp achter de schermen vieren (zal je de onsmakelijke details besparen) was een tube glijmiddel niet ver uit de buurt!
