Max Verstappen: "Kwalificatie wordt belangrijk in Brazilië, inhalen is lastig"

Kan Max Verstappen tijdens de Grand Prix van Brazilië revanche nemen voor de pech die hem vorig trof? De coureur van Red Bull Racing lijkt in ieder geval uit te kijken naar de race in Sao Paulo.

Vorig jaar leek Verstappen op weg naar de zege op het Autodromo José Carlos Pace, maar daar kwam het uiteindelijk niet toe. De Nederlander werd in leidende positie geraakt door achterblijver Esteban Ocon. Dat kostte hem de zege, waarna Verstappen na afloop van de race de confrontatie zocht met de Fransman. Desondanks kijkt de zevenvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar ernaar uit om terug te keren in Brazilië.

"Interlagos is een kort circuit, maar het is een goede en erg leuk om op te rijden. Het heeft een goede combinatie van bochten en het loopt ook tegen de klok in, wat dus iets zwaarder is voor de nek. Inhalen is hier niet makkelijk, dus de kwalificatie is best belangrijk. Ook is het circuit zwaar voor de banden, dus je moet daar de hele race goed op letten. Zoals we in 2016 zagen kan het weer ook een rol spelen!"

Verstappen kijkt uit naar goede sfeer

Verstappen geeft aan graag naar Brazilië te komen. Niet alleen omdat het Autodromo José Carlos Pace hem bevalt, ook van de algehele sfeer op het circuit is hij een fan. Die sfeer wordt vanzelfsprekend gemaakt door de 'gepassioneerde' Braziliaanse fans. "Brazilië heeft veel gepassioneerde fans die helemaal gek zijn van de F1, dus het is altijd goed om dat te zien. Het zorgt ook voor een geweldige sfeer."

  Beste ROYALERE, ik vraag me wel eens af hoe het is om in je eigen MAX/ROYALERE bubbeltje te leven, moet toch wel wat eenzaam en eentonig zijn verbeeld ik mij zo. Echt geloof me er zijn nog zoveel andere interessante zaken in de racesport in het algemeen maar in de F1 in het bijzonder te beleven

  Max heeft als een van de weinigen geen recht stuk nodig om een aanval te plaatsen, probleem is alleen dat hij er dan net zoals in Mexico met Bottas vaak zelf slachtoffer van wordt. Ik vind dat soort agressieve actie's echter briljant, en een ander weer oerdom en te risicovol ;)

  Eens met ROYALERE. Wilde ik ook zeggen: rechte stuk is lang en Max heeft vorig jaar al laten zien dat hij daar goed kan inhalen, ondanks dat de Renault motor vorig jaar relatief zwakker tov de concurrentie was dan de Honda van nu.

  Ach kom nou, was helemaal niet zo een bijzondere race. Nurburgring 1999 was bijvoorbeeld véél en véél leuker. Braziilë 2003 was ook knettergek. Nurburgring 2007, Fuji 2007, Hockenheim dit jaar, waren allemaal leukere races.

Rechte stuk na de Senna-S en het rechte stuk over start finish. Daar kan ingehaald worden. Rest van het circuit functioneert om te positioneren voor die twee rechte stukken.
