Pietro Fittipaldi en Haas F1 'dicht' bij overeenkomst voor 2020

Pietro Fittipaldi heeft goede hoop dat hij ook in 2020 onderdeel is van Haas F1. De Braziliaanse simulatorcoureur vertelde aan Globo dat hij dicht bij een nieuwe deal met het team is.

Fittipaldi voegde zich eind 2018 bij Haas F1 om gedurende het seizoen 2019 de testcoureur van het Amerikaanse team te worden. Als onderdeel van zijn werkzaamheden stapte hij onder andere tijdens de wintertests in Barcelona en de in-season test in Bahrein in de VF-19. Daarnaast reed Fittipaldi een seizoen in de DTM, waarin hij 22 punten scoorde. In eigen land maakte de Braziliaan duidelijk dat hij verwacht in 2020 weer de testrijder van Haas te zijn.

"De onderhandelingen zijn in een vergevorderd stadium. Ik zou heel graag verder gaan met mijn werk bij Haas en met een voet in de Formule 1 blijven, want mijn doel is om Brazilië met een racezitje te vertegenwoordigen. Dat is mijn droom. We zijn nog aan het onderhandelen, maar ik denk dat het gaat lukken. We zijn er bijna."

Fittipaldi wil Haas F1 helpen na lastig seizoen

Haas F1 beleeft dit jaar een lastig seizoen, waarbij het team vooral moeite heeft om de banden onder controle te krijgen. Fittipaldi wil het team graag helpen om de problemen voor 2020 de baas te worden. "Ik voelde dat de auto erg goed was tijdens mijn tests in Barcelona en Bahrein. Gedurende het jaar hebben we echter snelheid verloren en verbeterden we ons niet waar we dat verwachtten. De tests gingen echter goed."

"Ik heb drie keer per week in de simulator gewerkt en ik probeer het team te helpen met de auto voor volgend jaar. De problemen die we hebben zijn te complex om uit te leggen - het is niet zo simpel dat we kunnen zeggen dat we het probleem gevonden hebben. Er zijn meerdere zaken die een groot probleem veroorzaken. Het team weet echter al op welke vlakken we ons voor volgend jaar moeten verbeteren."

Vanwege WRT in de DTM heb ik hem fit jaar zeer dichtbij meegemaakt. De man is steengoed, en bovendien een superkerel. Als Haas zijnde had ik Grosjean er al lang uitgewipt en Fittipaldi erin gezet.

  Als hij echt goed is dan juich ik dat toe. Ik vind het voor de sport ook weer belangrijk om een goede Braziliaan erbij te hebben.

  Mee eens. Vond dat hij het tijdens de wintertests ontzettend goed gedaan heeft. Geen fouten, prima snelheid en er zit natuurlijk nog veel rek in zo'n jonge gozer.
