Max Verstappen hoopt op mooie afsluiting van 2019 in Abu Dhabi

Met een goede sfeer binnen het team vertrekt Red Bull Racing naar de laatste race van 2019. Max Verstappen hoopt in Abu Dhabi een mooi einde te kunnen geven aan het eerste jaar met Honda.

Ruim een week geleden legde Verstappen in Brazilië beslag op zijn derde zege van 2019. In São Paulo hield de Nederlander de focus vast in een rommelige slotfase, waarna hij voor de achtste keer in zijn carrière wist te winnen. Wel waarschuwt hij in zijn voorbeschouwing op Abu Dhabi dat het Yas Marina Circuit heel andere karakteristieken heeft dan Brazilië, wat versterkt wordt door de sessies die bij invallende duisternis verreden worden.

"We gaan van een vloeiend circuit als Interlagos naar een krap en bochtig circuit op Yas Marina, waar de auto op een compleet andere manier afgesteld moet worden om het maximale eruit te halen. Dat is altijd een uitdaging in Abu Dhabi, omdat we in de trainingen overgaan van dag naar nacht. De tweede vrije training is de belangrijkste sessie, want die is het meest representatief voor de omstandigheden in de kwalificatie en de race."

Tevredenheid over eerste jaar met Honda

Verstappen zal in Abu Dhabi zijn meest succesvolle seizoen in de Formule 1 tot nu toe afsluiten. Drie keer stond de Nederlander op het podium en ook was hij drie keer de snelste in de kwalificatie. Door de veelbesproken gridstraf in Mexico staat de teller echter op twee pole positions. Bovendien zal Verstappen het jaar afsluiten met het hoogste aantal punten dat hij in een seizoen heeft gescoord.

Dat alles vond plaats in het eerste seizoen van de samenwerking tussen Red Bull en Honda. Verstappen is tevreden over het verloop van het seizoen. "Terugkijkend denk ik dat we tevreden kunnen zijn met ons seizoen dit jaar, wat ons eerste jaar met Honda is. Hopelijk kunnen we het met een hoogtepunt afsluiten dit weekend, voordat iedereen zijn eigen weg gaat voor kerst en oud en nieuw."

Zijn er echt geen mensen beschikbaar die de teksten checken, voordat die gepubliceerd worden? 3x op podium of 3 x hoogste trede podium is nogal een verschil. Ik ben natuurlijk de azijnzeiker hier weer, maar jongens “get your act together” als. jullie een “nieuws” website willen runnen.
