Max Verstappen: "We komen steeds dichterbij een auto die titels kan winnen"

Ook in 2019 heeft Red Bull Racing weer een sterke opmars weten te maken met haar bolide. De progressie is volgens Max Verstappen dermate dat hij het gevoel heeft dat de auto steeds dichter naar het punt gaat waarbij er titels gepakt kunnen worden.

Dit weekend sluit de Formule 1 het huidige seizoen af in Abu Dhabi. Verstappen kan daar definitief beslag leggen op de derde positie in het kampioenschap: om daarin te slagen, mag hij maximaal 10 punten verliezen op Charles Leclerc. Veel waarde hecht Verstappen daar overigens niet aan. De Nederlander stelt dat vrijwel niemand zich dat over twintig jaar nog kan herinneren, hoewel hij toch wel liever derde dan vierde of vijfde wordt.

"Het is altijd prettiger om derde te worden dan als vierde of vijfde te eindigen. Het zou me echter niet echt blij maken als ik over twintig jaar terugkijk en zie dat ik derde ben geworden. We zijn hier allemaal om te winnen en te vechten om de titel. Na afloop van dit weekend zou het fijn zijn om de derde plek te hebben, maar over twintig jaar zegt dat niet zo veel meer", vertelde Verstappen tijdens de persconferentie in Abu Dhabi.

'Volgend jaar vanaf het begin competitief zijn'

Red Bull ontwikkelt zich vaak sterk gedurende het seizoen en dat was in 2019 niet anders. Het team begon het seizoen nog met een achterstand, maar in de afgelopen races streed Verstappen keurig mee om de pole positions. De Nederlander heeft dan ook het gevoel dat Red Bull steeds dichterbij een auto komt die wereldtitels kan winnen.

"Ik denk dat wij inderdaad dichterbij een auto zitten die titels kan winnen, ook als ik kijk naar de plannen voor volgend jaar. We moeten echter wel afwachten en bekijken wat de rest bedacht heeft. We willen natuurlijk vechten om de titel en daar gaan we alles voor geven, zodat we volgend jaar vanaf het begin competitief zijn."

Met alle ontwikkelingen voor 2021 zal er waarschijnlijk weer een team zeer dominant gaan worden.

Nou dat zou tijd worden, volgend seizoen is de laatste kans namelijk...
Met alle ontwikkelingen voor 2021 zal er waarschijnlijk weer een team zeer dominant gaan worden.

  we krijgen in 2021 een budget cap wat inhoud dat RBR en Ferarri flink gaan inversteren om te zorgen dat de infra van topkwaliteit is voor 2021.
  Mercedes word waarschijnlijk verkocht dus die gaan geen extra miljoenen inversterenn in windtunnels
