Valtteri Bottas heeft geen haast om snel contract te tekenen voor 2021

Valtteri Bottas heeft geen haast met het verkrijgen van zekerheid over zijn toekomst. De Mercedes-coureur heeft geen haast om voorafgaand aan 2020 een contract voor 2021 veilig te stellen.

Bottas en Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff gaven toe dat het niet juist was om zo lang te wachten met het contract van Bottas voor 2020 en beiden hoopten ze dat dit niet nogmaals zal gebeuren. Hoewel het afgelopen jaar dus lang duurde voordat Bottas zekerheid kreeg, stelt de Finse coureur dat hij geen problemen heeft met afwachten en te bekijken wat er aankomt gedurende het aankomende seizoen.

"Nee, ik heb er nog niet echt aan gedacht", vertelde Bottas. "Er is geen haast om iets vast te leggen voordat het volgende seizoen begint. Dat is hoe ik erin sta. Ik zou graag zien wat er allemaal gaande is, wat het team denkt, wat het team later mogelijk zal aanbieden. Er is dus niet echt stress of haast hiermee. Ik kijk er echter wel naar uit om verder te gaan en daarna de gesprekken te beginnen."

Bottas wil alle opties bekijken voor 2020

Bottas gelooft dat 2020 een interessant seizoen gaat worden, omdat veel coureurs een aflopend contract hebben. Dat geldt voor Bottas, maar ook voor Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen en Lewis Hamilton. De zevenvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar wil graag zien welke kansen er voort kunnen komen uit de aflopende contracten. Door de huidige prestaties van het team sluit hij een langer verblijf bij Mercedes ook niet uit.

"Ik denk dat het voor ons een interessant seizoen wordt. Zowel aan het begin van het seizoen als tijdens de zomer, want ik kan me niet herinneren dat er ooit zoveel coureurs een aflopend contract hadden. Natuurlijk zal ik, net als iedere andere coureur, kijken naar alle opties, maar als ik op dit moment moet beslissen voor 2021, dan zou ik zonder twijfel bij dit team blijven."

Ik denk dat ie best even pro-actief op zoek moet gaan naar een nieuw zitje voor '21. Hij ziet vast zelf ook wel de bui hangen. Mss best even gaan luisteren bij Renault :)

Bottas zit daar omdat Lewis nog steeds veel won, en Bottas het wel goed vind, kort samen gevat heeft hij denk ik weinig te willen.
