Valtteri Bottas krijgt wederom nieuwe krachtbron na pneumatisch lek

Valtteri Bottas heeft na afloop van de vrijdag in Abu Dhabi wederom een nieuwe krachtbron ontvangen. Mercedes vond een pneumatisch lek en heeft besloten om nog meer motoronderdelen te vervangen.

Tijdens de Grand Prix van Brazilië viel Bottas uit met een olielek en dat zorgde er al voor dat de Fin in Abu Dhabi uitgerust werd met zijn vierde verbrandingsmotor, turbo en MGU-H. Daarmee overschreed hij het maximum aantal toegestane exemplaren van deze componenten in een seizoen, waardoor al duidelijk was dat hij de laatste race van het seizoen vanaf de laatste positie moet aanvangen.

Op de vrijdag was Bottas betrokken bij een incident met Romain Grosjean, waarvoor hij een reprimande kreeg. De Mercedes liep daarbij ook schade op, maar desondanks eindigde hij die dag bovenaan de eindklassering. Na VT2 kwam het Duitse fabrieksteam problemen tegen bij de krachtbron van Bottas: het team vond een pneumatisch lek.

Omdat Bottas de race op het Yas Marina Circuit hoe dan ook vanaf de laatste positie zal aanvangen, heeft Mercedes besloten om wederom nieuwe motorcomponenten in zijn bolide te installeren. In dit geval gaat het om een nieuwe verbrandingsmotor, turbo, MGU-H en MGU-K. De gridstraf van de nummer 2 in het wereldkampioenschap loopt hierdoor op tot 55 plaatsen, maar volgens het huidige systeem betekent dat dus een start achteraan de grid.

Jaja, gewoon een nog nieuwere in de race zal je bedoelen. Het maakt toch niet meer uit, al gooien ze er nog 345 in. achteraan had hij toch wel gestart dan maar alles vers.

Schijnt dat ze hiermee alvast 2020 onderdelen willen testen (én dan kunnen ze die onderdelen ook meenemen naar de after-season test, omdat ze in de race gebruikt zijn, voor verdere analyse).
