Daniel Ricciardo baalt: "De harde banden hebben mijn race vermoord"

Daniel Ricciardo heeft zijn eerste seizoen bij Renault afgesloten met een elfde positie in Abu Dhabi. De Renault-coureur baalt daar flink van en legt de schuld voor het missen van de punten neer bij de harde banden van Pirelli.

Na afloop van de race verklaarde Ricciardo, die in de laatste ronde nog voorbij ging aan teamgenoot Nico Hülkenberg, dat de hardste compound van Pirelli zijn race 'vermoord' heeft. "Ik wil niet kritisch zijn, maar ik ga het gewoon zeggen zoals het is. Soms is het zo in de F1, maar deze avond was een saaie avond. Ik ben blij dat het voorbij is en blij dat ik snel op vakantie kan."

"Beide auto's misten natuurlijk de punten en voor mij persoonlijk vermoordde de harde band mijn race. Ik had er totaal geen snelheid op en het was een van die dingen waarvan je het als coureur meteen weet. We testen soms vijf of zelfs zeven ronden, maar je hebt een outlap nodig om te weten hoe de auto gaat zijn en ik voelde het al in bocht 8 tijdens mijn outlap op de hards."

Tweede pitstop kwam 'te laat' voor Ricciardo

Ricciardo legde ook uit hoe hij in eerste instantie positief probeerde te blijven, maar uiteindelijk niet anders kon dan zijn team vertellen dat hij grote moeite had met de snelheid na de pitstop. Laat in de race maakte de Australiër een tweede pitstop, maar hij had het gevoel dat deze stop te laat kwam om echt een verschil te kunnen maken.

"Mijn gevoel vertelde me dat dit een behoorlijk slechte stint zou worden, maar dat vertelde ik niet meteen over de radio. Ik wilde niet negatief zijn tijdens de eerste ronden, maar na een aantal ronden vertelde ik de jongens dat het nergens op uitliep. Uiteindelijk deden we een tweestopper en de soft was een stuk beter, maar het kwam te laat."

Als het aan mij lag ging de DRS er af volgend seizoen, ze klagen allemaal over problemen betreft inhalen, maar ik vond de race veel leuker in het begin zonder die kunstmatige ingrepen.
De coureurs moesten weer gewoon old school slipstreamen om in te kunnen halen, oké er waren minder inhaal mome... [Lees verder]

  Bjorn, de Nederlandse schrijver met een matige kennis van Engels, wil soms nog wel eens een beetje te letterlijk vertalen als hij de stukjes tekst van Dieter Rencken, de schrijver en eigenaar van Race fans, over aan het tikken is. Af en toe heb ik het idee dat er wat Google Translate, een bekende tool van de populaire zoekmachine van het gelijknamige Google, een bedrijf uit het in het Noord-Amerikaanse continent gelegen Verenigde Staten en concurrent van het eveneens uit de Verenigde Staten komende Amazon, aan te pas komt. Maar wellicht vergis ik mij daarin.

  On Topic: dat is toch echt aan de auto te danken, dat de men de banden niet aan de praat krijgt. Andere teams hadden daar geen moeite mee. Nota bene met dezelfde band. Ric is duidelijk gefrustreerd.

  Inderdaad,sommige mensen noemen het racen als een Mercedes met drs een Renault in haalt.erg jammer dat drs inderdaad.iedereen werd zondag wel heel erg met de neus op de feiten gedrukt

  De coureurs moesten weer gewoon old school slipstreamen om in te kunnen halen, oké er waren minder inhaal momenten, maar de inhaal pogingen die er wel waren waren veel mooier om te zien.
  Ook het viel mij wel op dat er geen auto was die moeite had kort achter een ander te rijden.

  Op dit circuit leek het gebrek aan DRS inderdaad best goed te werken, mede dankzij de 2 lange rechte stukken vlak na elkaar. Op sommige banen met een lang recht stuk denk ik de laatste tijd telkens: "OK, hij [achtervolger] heeft DRS, dus die vliegt voorbij". Nu was het een stuk interessanter.
  
  Er zijn circuits waar DRS met de huidige generatie auto's denk ik nog wel een noodzakelijk kwaad is. Bijvoorbeeld banen als Singapore, waar zelfs met DRS bijna niet kan worden ingehaald. Op die banen vind ik het dus nog niet zo erg.
  
  Misschien is het een idee om volgend jaar op een paar circuits (zoals Yas Marina) de DRS gewoon uit te schakelen.
