Steiner: "Abu Dhabi is nog steeds de juiste plek voor seizoensafsluiter Formule 1"

De Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi levert weliswaar niet de grootste spektakelstukken op van alle circuits op de Formule 1-kalender, maar Haas F1-teambaas Günther Steiner ziet het circuit wel als de juiste locatie voor de afsluiting van het seizoen.

Afgelopen weekend was het Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi de gastheer van de laatste race van het seizoen 2019 en ook nu was de race niet bijzonder spectaculair. Steiner is echter van mening dat dit niet heel veel uitmaakt: de sfeer op en rond het circuit zorgen ervoor dat de locatie volgens de Italiaanse teambaas uitermate geschikt is voor het organiseren van de laatste race van het seizoen.

"Het racen hier is nooit bepaald goed geweest door de karakteristieken van het circuit. Ik denk echter niet dat we dit jaar een slechte show hebben gezien, alleen om dat Lewis Hamilton iedereen vanaf de start op achterstand zette. Ik vind Abu Dhabi niet de verkeerde plaats voor de laatste race. Wil je dat echt in Brazilië doen? Dat denk ik niet."

"Uit sportief oogpunt is Interlagos waarschijnlijk beter geschikt, maar als we het hebben over de sfeer, dan is Abu Dhabi werkelijk excellent. We zien bijvoorbeeld ook niet altijd spannende races in Melbourne, maar het is altijd een geweldige locatie voor de eerste race. Ik geloof ook dat Abu Dhabi een goede locatie voor de laatster race is."

In 2009, 2010 en vervolgens sinds 2014 is de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi de afsluiter van het Formule 1-seizoen. Ook op de kalender voor 2020, die een recordaantal van 22 races kent, is het Yas Marina Circuit de laatste baan waar de Formule 1 te gast zal zijn.

Ben het niet met Steiner eens, dat de sfeer in Melbourne en Abu Dhabi geweldig is daar kopen 'wij' als F1 kijkers helemaal niets voor, zowel de opener als de afsluiter moeten op historische locaties gereden worden,
inderdaad: Interlagos bijvoorbeeld!

Steiner zal wel een zak geld gehad hebben van een Arabier of indirect inkomsten hieruit genereren.

Het is een draak van de F1 race, te veel saaie races, maar boven dat horen er bij een afsluitende F1 race afgeladen tribunes met F1 fans aanwezig te zijn en geen grote stukken tribunes zonder publiek en op veel plekken zie veelal rijkelui die maar zijdelings interesse hebben in de F1.

Interlagos heeft wel de sfeer die past bij een seizoensfinale of anders misschien hiervoor de GP in Mexico gebruiken. De sfeer op de tribunes is thuis op de TV haast voelbaar, dat wil je hebben bij de laatste race!

Kunnen ze niet een andere lay-out proberen op Abu Dhabi, mogelijkheden zat als je naar alle zijtakken kijkt op het circuit.
Het zal er niet snel nog saaier worden mijn inziens.
