Binotto verwacht in 2021 van hetzelfde laken een pak

Mattia Binotto verwacht dat de pikorde in de Formule 1 in 2021 globaal gezien hetzelfde blijft als in de afgelopen jaren. Hij verwacht dat niet alle teams op gelijke voet beginnen in het nieuwe tijdperk van de sport.

De Formule 1 introduceert in 2021 een heel nieuw pakket met reglementen. De technische reglementen gaan op de schop om betere gevechten te faciliteren en de verschillen tussen de teams kleiner te maken, terwijl de invoering van financiële reglementen ervoor moeten zorgen dat de uitgaven beperkt worden en de teams qua financiële middelen op een gelijker speelveld komen te staan.

Binotto verwacht echter niet dat er in 2021 veel gaat veranderen. "De nieuwe regels zullen de F1 vijf jaar stabiliteit geven. Ik denk echter dat de teams met meer bronnen in 2021 een competitief voordeel zullen hebben ten opzichte van de rest, wat laat zien dat niet iedereen in 2020 een extra budget kon inzetten. De situatie in 2021 zal daardoor niet heel anders zijn dan die van nu", vertelde de teambaas van Ferrari aan La Gazzetta dello Sport.

'Gat tussen teams pas na enkele jaren kleiner'

Tijdens het seizoen 2020 zal de aandacht van de teams verdeeld moeten worden over de auto's van 2020 én 2021. Dat is een taak die de topteams eenvoudiger kunnen uitvoeren: zij kunnen leunen op een groter personeelsbestand en hebben de financiële middelen om twee projecten parallel te laten draaien. "De projecten zullen parallel lopen en afhankelijk van hoe goed onze volgende auto is, zullen we prioriteiten stellen", zegt Binotto.

"De nieuwe reglementen zijn op zo'n manier geschreven dat de hoeveelheid vrijheid qua ontwikkeling minder groot wordt dan nu het geval is. Ik weet vrij zeker dat we binnen drie jaar in de buurt komen van het plafond qua prestaties. Het gat tussen de eerste en laatste teams zal dan kleiner worden. Het doel dat Liberty zichzelf gesteld heeft om de teams dichterbij elkaar te brengen, kan bereikt worden. Dat zal echter niet onmiddellijk gebeuren."

Jammer dat de technische vrijheid minder wordt. Maar goed. dat is al een ontwikkeling die al langer gaande is. Nu moeten de teams nog meer in de marges en details gaan zoeken om een paar tienden te vinden.

  Op zich is dat, samen met het budgetplafond, en de mogelijkheid om te slipstreamen en in te halen, wel de goede weg om meer strijd te krijgen. Echter de grote fout die men gemaakt heeft is het budgetplafond ook pas vanaf 2021 in te laten gaan. Nu kunnen dit komende jaar de grote teams nog alles uit de kast trekken om een voorsprong op te bouwen ten opzichte van de concurrentie. Waarschijnlijk was men zich daarvan bewust, maar heeft men onder druk van het veto van Ferrari niet aangedurfd. Zelfs dat veto, dat in eerste instantie sterk teruggedraaid werd, is plotseling weer in volle sterkte teruggegeven. Waarschijnlijk heeft Ferrari achter de schermen gedreigd te zullen vertrekken, en met Honda die slechts tot en met 2021 getekend heeft, en met Mercedes, waar men ook nog niet precies weet wat de lange termijnplannen zijn, is men voor de druk gezwicht. Dan komt daar zo'n Binotto en vertelt met stalen gezicht dat het wel tot drie jaar kan gaan duren voor het veld competetief word... Dan krijg ik bijna kotsneigingen.

  Je weet dat het vanaf 2021 super aantrekkelijk is om in de Formule 1 te blijven vanwege het budget limiet?

  Honda heeft aangegeven ook in 2021 met de motoren door te gaan , tot men meer duidelijkheid heeft over de nieuwe motorenregelementen heeft men nog geen beslissing over 2022 en langer genomen

  @weeterniksvan, tenzij er ineens een grote crisis opdoemt of echte resultaten achterblijven kan ik mij niet voorstellen dat Honda ineens vertrekt uit de F1. Bedoel zo'n F1 divisie optuigen kost ook de nodige knaken. En dan binnen een paar jaar stoppen zou regelrechte kapitaal vernietiging zijn

  @eflitso Voorbeelden genoeg daarvan. BMW, Toyota, Renault (daarna weliswaar teruggekeerd, maar in eerste instantie ook alleen maar als motorenlverancier voor RB gewerkt. Het fabrieksteam was weg. Ook Mercedes heeft dit al eens gedaan.
