Vermeulen: "Verstappen voelt zich als vis in water bij Red Bull Racing"

Max Verstappen blijft in ieder geval tot eind 2023 coureur van Red Bull Racing. Manager Raymond Vermeulen verklaarde tegenover Formule 1 dat de keuze eigenlijk vrij snel gemaakt was.

Het contract van Verstappen bij Red Bull liep nog door tot eind 2020 en hij leek in de belangstelling te staan van meerdere topteams. Enkele dagen naar de jaarwisseling heeft het Oostenrijkse team er echter voor gezorgd dat die geruchten tot een einde zijn gekomen. Verstappen tekende een nieuw contract voor drie jaar, dat hem tot eind 2023 aan Red Bull verbindt.

Volgens Vermeulen werd de eerste stap richting de contractverlenging gezet tijdens een 'vrijblijvend' gesprek met Helmut Marko in Brazilië. "In Brazilië hadden we tijdens een etentje een eerste vrijblijvend gesprek met Helmut. Dan kom je in een proces met elkaar. Intern hebben we vervolgens meerdere gesprekken met elkaar gevoerd over de visie voor de korte, middellange en lange termijn."

Red Bull en Verstappen wilden allebei graag verlengen

Dat er vroeg in 2020 al een contractverlenging is gekomen voor Verstappen, is volgens Vermeulen aan beide partijen te danken. Red Bull wilde graag met de coureur verder, terwijl de coureur zelf graag bij de Oostenrijkers wilde blijven. "We zijn nog steeds van mening dat we unfinished business hebben met Red Bull en Honda. De eerder geboekte progressie willen we graag voortzetten."

"Red Bull heeft ons in 2015 in de Formule 1 geholpen, maar we hebben ook commercieel een fantastische samenwerking. Het belangrijkste blijft echter dat we willen winnen. Dat blijft de rode draad. Red Bull wil ook winnen en zij willen de titel naar Milton-Keynes halen. Bovendien voelt Max zich als een vis in het water bij het team. Max, Jos en ik waren er redelijk snel uit dat dit de beste keuze was."

Man man man wat moet die Vermeulen een zooi binnenhalen met dit contract.
Die man is in 1 keer financieel onafhankelijk geworden, voor zover hij dat al niet was natuurlijk.
Die heeft 12 uur lang naakt de horlepiep staan dansen op straat. Uiteindelijk moest de politie er aan te pas komen omdat de buren begonnen te klagen.

  11 uur lang kijken naar een blote Vermeulen die de horlepiep danst dat trokken die buren nog net, maar toen Jos in de blote bips de moonwalk deed op straat toen was de grens bereikt en werd de politie gebeld, met name voor Jos kon dat wel eens problematisch worden...
