'Vijf vrije trainingen en wintertestdag voor Kubica bij Alfa Romeo'

Robert Kubica zal in 2020 waarschijnlijk meerdere keren in actie komen tijdens een Grand Prix-weekend. De nieuwe reservecoureur van Alfa Romeo zal naar verluidt vijf keer een vrije training gaan afwerken.

Kubica werd recent aangetrokken door Alfa Romeo als de nieuwe derde rijder van het team, nadat hij aan het eind van 2019 op eigen initiatief vertrok bij Williams. De Pool wordt achter Kimi Raikkonen en Antonio Giovinazzi de derde man, maar volgens Przeglad Sportowy blijft hij niet helemaal stilzitten. De Poolse sportkrant meent te weten dat er vijf vrije trainingen gereserveerd zijn voor Kubica. Bovendien zal hij ook een dag(deel) gaan rijden tijdens de wintertest.

Vermoedelijk ook DTM-avontuur voor Kubica

Normaal gesproken zal het qua Formule 1-werkzaamheden daarbij blijven voor Kubica, die voor verdere actie afhankelijk is van blessures of ziekte bij een van de vaste coureurs van Alfa Romeo. Wel is de verwachting dat de enkelvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar komend seizoen in een andere raceklasse aan de slag zal gaan als coureur. Al enkele maanden wordt zijn naam genoemd voor een plekje bij BMW in de DTM.

In 2019 keerde Kubica terug in de Formule 1, nadat hij in 2010 voor het laatst een race reed. Een zware crash in een rally en de daaropvolgende lange revalidatie zorgden ervoor dat Kubica pas in 2017 weer meters kon maken in een Formule 1-auto. In 2018 was hij de reservecoureur van Williams, waarvoor hij in 2019 een van de vaste coureurs was. Het werd een moeizaam seizoen, maar hij scoorde wel het enige punt van Williams.

Wat is de meerwaarde hiervan? Leuk voor Kubica zelf, maar dacht dat jonge gasten verplicht een aantal vrije trainingen moeten gaan rijden

  Ik dacht exact hetzelfde. Waarom doet Kubica zichzelf en anderen dit aan? Laat los, zou ik zeggen. Het wordt helaas nooit meer hetzelfde, kan/wil hij dat niet accepteren of zit et wat anders achter? Sponsoring, marketing of zo? Weet iemand dat?
