Norris verklapt: McLaren onthult MCL35 op 13 februari

Lando Norris heeft verklapt wanneer McLaren haar nieuwe bolide voor het seizoen 2020 presenteert. Op 13 februari haalt het Britse team het doek van de MCL35 af.

Norris deed de onthulling tijdens een livevideo op het YouTube-kanaal van McLaren. Daar gaf de jonge Brit, die in 2020 zijn tweede seizoen in dienst van het team zal afwerken, een rondleiding door het McLaren Technology Centre. Daarbij kwam hij in een vergaderruimte terecht waar gesproken werd over de onthulling van de MCL35, waar Norris duidelijk maakte dat deze op 13 februari plaatsvindt. De auto wordt in het McLaren Technology Centre gepresenteerd.

Daarmee zal McLaren niet het eerste team zijn dat het doek van de bolide voor 2020 haalt. Ferrari maakte in december al duidelijk dat de onthulling van 'project 671' plaatsvindt op 11 februari. Volgens geruchten zal Red Bull Racing de RB16 op 12 februari presenteren, hoewel dit nog niet officieel bevestigd is. Op 14 februari presenteert Alpha Tauri, het voormalige Toro Rosso, haar nieuwe strijdwapen.

McLaren zal in 2020 willen voortborduren op het sterke seizoen 2019. Na een aantal moeizame jaren heeft de renstal vorig jaar de weg omhoog weer weten te vinden. Carlos Sainz werd zesde in het kampioenschap en samen met Norris stuwde hij het team naar de vierde positie bij de constructeurs. Dat was de beste klassering van het team sinds 2012, toen Lewis Hamilton en Jenson Button het team naar de derde positie wisten te rijden.

  Ik ben erg blij voor de McLaren fans. Eindelijk licht aan het einde van de tunnel. Goed duo, redelijke auto. Terechte P4 2019.
