Bottas richt zich in 2020 op 'eigen doelstellingen' en contractverlenging

Valtteri Bottas zal zich in 2020 wederom moeten bewijzen om zijn zitje bij Mercedes te kunnen houden. De Fin lijkt zich momenteel echter geen zorgen te maken over de situatie.

Bottas voegde zich in 2017 bij Mercedes, nadat Nico Rosberg na het behalen van de wereldtitel de helm aan de wilgen hing. De Fin heeft tot dusver echter ieder jaar een nieuw contract moeten afdwingen. Dat zal in 2020 niet anders zijn, want aan het eind van het jaar loopt zijn verbintenis wederom af. Dat leek Bottas dwars te zitten, omdat hij in die positie geraakt werd door constant aanhoudende geruchten over zijn toekomst.

Teambaas Toto Wolff maakte vervolgens duidelijk dat hij bij de volgende ronde contractbesprekingen 'beter werk' gaat afleveren, en dat heeft de zorgen van Bottas deels weggenomen. "Ik denk dat het een goede situatie is", vertelde hij aan MTV Sport. "Ik heb een contract voor dit jaar, en op dit moment hebben het team en ik daarna nog niets. Laten we vanaf nul beginnen."

Bottas verwacht veel speculatie in 2020

Bottas is absoluut niet de enige coureur wiens contract na afloop van het seizoen 2020 afloopt. Bij de topteams hebben alleen Charles Leclerc en Max Verstappen al een nieuw contract ondertekend. Daardoor kan gesteld worden dat de 'silly season' voor 2021 al begonnen is. Zelf verwacht Bottas dat er in de komende maanden een hoop speculatie zal zijn.

"Vroeg in de zomer zal er absoluut een hoop speculatie zijn over de rijdersmarkt [voor 2021]. Natuurlijk wil iedereen een overeenkomst hebben voor volgend jaar, of zelfs nog langer, net zoals Leclerc en Verstappen nu hebben. Dat is waar het op aankomt, maar er is geen druk. Ik ga gewoon mijn eigen doelen nastreven en mijn werk doen, en dat doe ik voor mezelf."

Ik zou me inderdaad ook niet gewardeerd voelen als mijn teamgenoot jaren contract krijgt en jezelf telkens maar 1.

Bottas contract gaat niet verlengd worden en Wolff schuift George Russell door naar Merc.
Zal Bottas dan nog ergens terecht kunnen of is het dan gelijk einde F1-carrière?

  Zou zomaar kunnen dat hij weer onderdak vind bij een topteam na 2020,
  hangt af van de situatie Vettel/Leclerc, als Vettel dit seizoen het onderspit delft zie ik hem vertrekken waardoor er bij Ferrari een opening komt voor een bewezen goede 2e man als Bottas, RBR idem, mocht Albon tegenvallen zou ook daar zomaar een stoel vrij kunnen komen

  Hij zou een hele goede tweede man naast Leclerc kunnen zijn.
  Hij zou zelfs Albon kunnen vervangen als deze komend seizoen niet echt sneller meer wordt.
  Hij zou Daniël kunnen vervangen als deze vertrekt bij Renault.
  Ik denk dat er wel kansen voor hem liggen.
  Hij is geen Lewis of Max of Leclerc maar wel een Danny Ric, Seb Vettel of Perez. Daar doet hij niks voor onder. Daarnaast is hij een teamplayer en geen onrust stoker.

  Mocht Vettel vertrekken zie ik Ricciardo meer kans maken bij Ferrari dan Bottas. Alleen al commercieel/mediaaandacht zal Ric meer bieden.
  Daarnaast is Ric een betere racer.
  
  Bottas naar RBR? Zolang Marko nog aan het roer staat niet denk ik.
  
  Misschien Haas of RP ter vervanging van Gro/Per?
  Renault zou ook nog kunnen idd mocht Ric vertrekken
  
  De vraag is of Bottas zo'n demotie kan/wil slikken

  Ik denk niet dat Mercedes Russell zomaar in hun team zal plaatsen zonder middenveld ervaring. Ik denk dat ze eerder zullen kijken naar Ricciardo en Sainz.

Als Lewis blijft winnen, en Lewis sluit een deal voor paar jaar langer bij Mercedes , dan krijgt Bottas wel een contract , hij zal af moeten wachten zoals voorgaande jaren.
