Ferrari werd 'een beetje boos' op Leclerc na parachutesprong

Charles Leclerc zou in de toekomst graag eens een MotoGP-machine uit willen proberen. De Ferrari-coureur weet echter niet of hij toestemming van zijn team gaat krijgen, nadat hij recent al aangesproken werd op een skydive-avontuur.

"Ik zou enorm graag eens een MotoGP-machine uitproberen, mede doordat ik van motoren in het algemeen hou. Ik weet alleen niet zeker of Ferrari daarin meegaat", vertelde Leclerc op de Autosport International Show. "Ik moet ze eerst om toestemming vragen, en ik weet niet of het team ermee akkoord zou gaan."

Leclerc kreeg de vraag naar aanleiding van het avontuur dat Lewis Hamilton in december beleefde. Hij mocht in Valencia de Yamaha M1 van Valentino Rossi uitproberen. Daarbij maakte hij veel indruk op teammanager Lin Jarvis en de negenvoudig wereldkampioen motorracen zelf. Rossi stapte op zijn beurt in de Mercedes W08, waarin Hamilton in 2017 de wereldtitel wist te pakken.

'Vraag Ferrari normaal altijd om toestemming'

In het algemeen lijkt Leclerc wel iets te voelen voor activiteiten waarbij de nodige adrenaline vrijkomt. Eerder deze winter liet de Monegask een droom van zichzelf in vervulling gaan door in Dubai te skydiven. Daarvoor had hij echter geen toestemming gevraagd aan Ferrari en de tweevoudig Grand Prix-winnaar heeft dat ook geweten toen het team achter zijn capriolen kwam.

"Normaal gesproken vraag ik Ferrari altijd om toestemming als ik iets in gedachten heb dat niet heel gebruikelijk is. In het geval van de parachutesprong maakte ik echter een uitzondering. Ik vertelde mezelf dat ik niet verwachtte dat ik een uitbrander zou kunnen krijgen, zelfs als er een probleem zou zijn. Toen ze erachter kwamen, werden ze een beetje boos, maar ik ga het niet nog een tweede keer doen", wordt hij geciteerd door La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Er van uitgaande dat wanneer je niets vraagt alles mag is achteraf toch niet altijd zo is bij mij ook wel eens pijnlijk duidelijk geworden.

Ach, Hamilton is inmiddels al een paar dagen aan het trainen op een schietbaan om zo in John Wick 4 met Keanu Reeves te kunnen spelen. En het moet gezegd worden, die gast kan echt van alles als je hem tekeer ziet gaan op die schietbaan... Leclerc is dus, ondanks zijn skydive avontuur, nog een behoorlijk braaf mannetje.
