Valtteri Bottas niet verrast dat topteams al coureurs vastleggen voor 2021

Red Bull Racing en Ferrari hebben allebei al een coureur vastgelegd voor 2021 en dat verrast Valtteri Bottas niet. De Fin vindt het logisch dat teams zoeken naar stabiliteit op de rijdersmarkt.

Kort voor Kerst ondertekende Charles Leclerc een nieuw contract dat hem tot eind 2024 aan Ferrari verbindt, terwijl Max Verstappen zich kort na de jaarwisseling tot eind 2023 aan Red Bull Racing verbond. Daarmee haalden de teams twee grote talenten vroegtijdig van de rijdersmarkt af. Voor veel andere coureurs geldt echter dat hun contract na afloop van het aanstaande seizoen afloopt.

Voor Bottas is dat niet anders. De Fin heeft het de afgelopen jaren bij Mercedes moeten doen met eenjarige contracten en dat is ook in 2020 weer zo. De nummer 2 van het kampioenschap van 2019 is niet bijzonder verrast dat de topteams nu al bezig zijn om coureurs aan te trekken voor 2021. Dat vertelde hij aan de Finse krant Ilta Sanomat.

"Na dit jaar ligt alles een beetje open, dus misschien wilden ze alvast duidelijkheid hebben over één coureur. Wat dat betreft kan je niet echt verrast zijn. Verstappen en Leclerc zijn jong en ze hebben hun kwaliteiten al laten zien. De teams weten dat het behouden van deze coureurs geen risico is. Waarom niet? Het is een goed ding dat de zaken op de rijdersmarkt kan stabiliseren."

Amper spanningen met Hamilton

Bottas zal zich in 2020 wederom moeten bewijzen om zijn zitje bij Mercedes te houden en dat houdt dus in dat hij het wederom op moet nemen tegen Lewis Hamilton. Volgens geruchten zouden er gedurende het seizoen wat spanningen geweest zijn tussen de zesvoudig wereldkampioen en zijn uitdager bij Mercedes, maar Bottas stelt dat dit eigenlijk geen naam mag hebben.

"Als er al wat spanning was, dan was het heel klein", stelt Bottas. "We waren in staat om samen te werken en we zijn samen nooit zo close geweest. We racen echt hard tegen elkaar, maar we hebben nooit echt grote problemen gehad. Het is gezond dat je niet tegen je beste vriend racet, en het team is heel voorzichtig in het laten werken van de chemie tussen de coureurs."

niets van meegekregen van die zogenaamde spanningen tussen Vallteri en Lewis, hebben die 2 ergens in 2019 een aanvaring gehad? Denk dat het allemaal wel meeviel en Lewis zich geen betere teammaat kan wensen dan Bottas

  Is vooral binnenskamers.
  Zo heeft Bottas er een handje van om tijdens teambesprekingen constant van die smerige gluiperige scheten te laten.
  Lewis, als vegan CO2 klimaat activist, kan daar heel slecht tegen. Vooral als Bottas daarna lachen en demonstratief het raam opengooide.
  Inmiddels heeft Lewis op eigen kosten een peperduur en klimaat neutraal afzuigsysteem laten aanleggen zodat die ruften gefilterd de buitenlucht in gaan. Maar het blijft van tijd tot tijd lichte spanningen geven. Vooral omdat deze afbuiging er tijdens de Gp weekenden niet is. Het motorhome lijkt soms wel blauw te staan zo erg is het met die Fin.

  Vallteri is allesbehalve gluiperig, en dat deze jongen wat last van gasvorming heeft is de schuld van Lewis zelf, al het vlees moest de Mercedes catering van het menu schrappen en vervangen door bruine bonenschotels, bruine bonen soep, en noem maar op, na een paar weken ruft die arme Fin zich kwijt, vind je het gek...
