Renault heeft duidelijk doel voor 2020: "Momentum uit 2018 terugkrijgen"

Renault heeft een duidelijk doel meegekregen voor het aanstaande Formule 1-seizoen. Renault Sport Racing-president Jérôme Stoll benadrukt dat het team het positieve momentum uit de periode 2016-2018 terug moet vinden.

Na een opwaartse lijn te volgen in de periode tussen 2016 en 2018, waarin het team respectievelijk negende, zesde en vierde werd bij de constructeurs, stokte de progressie van Renault in 2019. In plaats van een stap vooruit of een pas op de plaats werd er een stapje terug gedaan. Klantenteam McLaren sprong naar de vierde plaats in het kampioenschap, terwijl Renault alle zeilen bij moest zetten om de vijfde plaats in bezit te houden.

Stoll hoopt dat Renault in de voorbereiding op 2021 de opwaartse lijn weer terug weet te vinden. "2020 is een belangrijk transitiejaar voor het team. We mikken erop om het positieve momentum uit onze eerste drie jaren na de terugkeer in de Formule 1 terug te vinden, terwijl we ons tegelijkertijd voorbereiden op volgend seizoen. Dat is het begin van een nieuwe cyclus voor alle teams."

'Nederigheid en ambitie' staan centraal bij Renault

Tijdens het kick-off evenement van Renault in Parijs sprak teambaas Cyril Abiteboul zich ook uit over de doelstellingen voor het seizoen 2020. De Franse teambaas had het daarbij niet over een specifieke positie die het team aan het eind van het jaar moet bezetten, maar wel over de instelling die het team en coureurs Daniel Ricciardo en Esteban Ocon moeten uitstralen: enerzijds ambitieus zijn, anderzijds moet men wel nederig blijven.

Abiteboul: "Dit jaar moeten we de best mogelijke koers uitzetten voor de grote reglemenswijzigingen van 2021. De organisatorische veranderingen uit de tweede helft van 2019 zijn met deze doelstelling in gedachten gemaakt. We benaderen dit seizoen met nederigheid en ambitie. Nederigheid als uitdaging is enorm belangrijk voor ieder team en dat geldt ieder jaar, dus wij zijn daarop geen uitzondering."

Enerzijds ambitieus aan de andere kant nederig. Oftewel roepen dat je wereldkampioen wilt worden maar in dezelfde zin aangeven dat dat bij Renault nooit gaat lukken.

Hebben ze nog steeds niet in de gaten dat ze vooral omhoog klommen door een “negatief” momentum bij teams als McLaren,Williams, FI en Haas in plaats van door een positief momentum bij Renault zelf.

Haha momentum 2016 -2018 die was er niet , alleen andere teams die heel erg tegen vielen. Ach teminste blazen ze nu niet zo hoog van de toren . Hebben ze mischien toch iets geleerd , maar we hebben abiteboul nog niet gehoord . Die houd niet zo van nederig en terughoudend . Die gaat waarschijnlijk snel roepen dat ocon voor het kampioenschap gaat en dat ricciardo alleen maar in de weg rijd ?
