Daniel Ricciardo eert Kobe Bryant met helmontwerp voor wintertests

Daniel Ricciardo rijdt de komende twee weken met een afwijkend helmontwerp. Daarmee brengt de Renault-coureur een eerbetoon aan de recent overleden basketballegende Kobe Bryant.

Via Instagram maakte Ricciardo kenbaar dat hij deze én volgende week met een speciaal helmontwerp rijdt tijdens de wintertest in Barcelona. De Australiër, die graag naar basketbal kijkt, gebruikt zijn hele helm om een eerbetoon te brengen aan Bryant. Dat begint al met de kleur van de hoofdbescherming: de helm is volledig paars, een verwijzing naar een van de basiskleuren van Bryant's voormalige club Los Angeles Lakers.

Op de zijkant van de helm heeft Ricciardo de tekens KB24 neer laten zetten, terwijl op de achterkant van de helm de slogan 'Mamba Mentality' staat. Bovenop de helm staat een afbeelding van een zwarte mamba, wat de bijnaam van Bryant was in de laatste jaren dat hij actief was als basketballer.

Eind januari kwam Bryant nabij Los Angeles om het leven na een helikopterongeluk. Bij die crash kwamen ook dochtertje Gianna en zeven andere inzittenden om het leven.
