Geen speciale Pirelli-banden voor kombochten Zandvoort

Pirelli heeft besloten om dit jaar geen speciale banden mee te nemen naar de Dutch Grand Prix op het gerenoveerde circuit van Zandvoort. Tijdens de wintertests testte de officiële bandenleverancier van de F1 enkele ongemarkeerde nieuwe voorbanden die waren ontworpen om de nieuwe steile bochten in de lay-out veiliger aan te pakken.

Pirelli-baas Mario Isola wil vooral de angst de kop indrukken: "Ik wil niets horen over 'paniek'. Er is geen paniek."

De Telegraaf meldt immers dat Pirelli toch zijn standaardbanden naar Zandvoort zal brengen. Het nieuws vlak na het moment dat Max Verstappen gisteren tijdens een promotie-evenement de nieuwe lay-out van Zandvoort probeerde, inclusief de steile bochten in een oudere Red Bull-auto.

Max Verstappen vindt Zandvoort cool

Na zijn paar rondjes in de RB8 over het vernieuwde circuit van Zandvoort vertelde hij aan de NOS: "Het is heel cool geworden. De derde bocht is erg hellend. Dat had ik niet verwacht. De binnenkant valt echt van je weg. De eerste paar keer zag ik helemaal de binnenkant van de bocht niet. Het duurde een paar ronden voordat ik de ideale lijn vond. Maar het is een hele speciale bocht geworden."

"Ik heb nog niet met anderen hier gereden, dus het is moeilijk te zeggen of je er met twee auto's door kunt komen. Maar het zal het inhalen zeker makkelijker maken. De laatste bocht zal ook heel uitdagend zijn met DRS open", voegde Verstappen toe .

Ten slotte ontkende de 22-jarige coureur dat zijn vroege kennismaking van het vernieuwde circuit hem een voordeel geeft ten opzichte van zijn F1-concurrenten. "Met goed simulatiewerk zal iedereen zeer goed voorbereid zijn."

Lijkt me een heel gaaf baantje 1 snel rondje op te rijden. Maar echt racen zal het niet worden. Of het moet gaan regenen. Ook verwacht ik wel een aantal crashes. Maar goed voorlopig ga ik er niet eens vanuit dat het doorgaat;)

Goed besluit! Zou ook wel het ritme van de coureur verstoren als ze elke keer die speciale banden voor elke kombocht moesten monteren.
