Max Verstappen herpakt zich na 'fiasco' van vrijdag

Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen heeft zich andermaal van zijn beste kant laten zien in de online racecompetitie 'Real Racers Never Quit' van Team Redline. De Nederlander schreef gisteravond beide races op zijn naam en daarmee poetste hij zijn mindere optreden van afgelopen vrijdag weg.

Op het circuit van Road America reden de meer dan 40 deelnemers dit keer met Formule 3-wagens en die auto ligt Verstappen duidelijk stukken beter dan de V8 Supercars-bolide waar ze vrijdag mee moesten racen. De Red Bull Racing-rijder leidde in de eerste race van start tot finish. In de tweede wedstrijd begon hij als tweede. Na een tumultueuze openingsfase waarbij zowel Daniel Juncadella als Lando Norris naast de baan belandde, greep Verstappen de leiding en stond die niet meer af.

Dit tot grote tevredenheid van de Nederlander. Hij liet aan Verstappen.nl weten: "Ik moest revanche nemen op het V8 Supercars-fiasco van afgelopen vrijdag. Dit ging een stuk beter en ik ben er erg blij mee. Bovendien kon ik maar drie rondes rijden in de eerste vrije training, omdat mijn PC crashte. Ik heb me erg vermaakt. Deze baan heeft veel slipstream mogelijkheden op bepaalde plekken. In de lange rechter doordraaier heb je wat meer last van de auto voor je, dus het is nog steeds lastig om in te halen."

Verstappen vocht in de slotfase van race 2 een verbeten duel om de winst uit met Juncadella, waarbij de twee elkaar even toucheerden in de slotronde. "Ik zag dat Daniel elke ronde een beetje dichterbij kwam. Ik probeerde hem niet in mijn slipstream te krijgen, maar ik maakte een foutje in de hairpin en daarmee verloor ik drie tienden. Toen kwam hij in mijn slipstream, wat zorgde voor een spannende laatste ronde. Ik wist niet wat er precies gebeurde tijdens het incident, dus ik heb de onboard beelden teruggekeken Ik stuurde niet naar rechts. Ik ging rechtdoor, de baan ging wat naar links en we raakten elkaar. Het is wat het is. Gelukking vlogen we niet van de baan en finishten we op dezelfde posities."
