V8 Supercars geeft Max Verstappen wildcard voor Eseries

Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen duikt woensdag in zijn volgende online race-avontuur. De Nederlander staat erom bekend veel aan simracen te doen en nu is hij uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan de V8 Supercars All Stars Eseries. Hij kruipt morgen thuis in zijn simulator voor twee races met een Holden Commodore op de circuits van Silverstone en Barcelona.

Verstappen neemt het daarin op tegen de reguliere coureurs uit het Australische toerwagen-kampioenschap. "Ik kijk ernaar uit. Het wordt een uitdaging, omdat ik nog niet zoveel op de sim heb geracet met deze auto, maar ze zijn in het echt heel cool. We racen altijd samen met de V8 Supercars in Melbourne, dus het wordt interessant om te zien waar ik sta ten opzichte van alle reguliere coureurs", vertelde hij aan Verstappen.nl.

"Ik heb de Supercar nu een paar keer geprobeerd op iRacing en het is een erg lastige auto om onder de knie te krijgen. Hopelijk kunnen we voor Red Bull een mooi resultaat neerzetten. Het wordt vast leuk om tegen de andere V8-coureurs te racen."

De races zijn vanaf 11.00 Nederlandse tijd live en gratis te zien via Red Bull TV en Twitch.

  Sowieso houdt men daar wel van wat duw en trekwerk, en als je ziet hoe ze die wagens over kerbs heen jagen kan alles wel een stootje hebben.

  Shane is inderdaad een serieus snelle vent. Doet sinds 2004 in de V8 Supercars mee. Eerst voor Stone Brothers (toen een Ford team), maar toen het switchte naar Mercedes wilde hij onder zijn contract uit. Dat lukte door eerst vanwege mentale problemen met pensioen te gaan en na een paar maanden in te stappen bij het superkleine Tekno team van zijn vriend Jon Webb. Hoewel de beslissing hem op flinke kritiek kwam te staan, bleek het wel de juiste, want Mercedes in de Supercars was helaas geen groot succes. Na een paar goede resultaten pikte Team Triple Eight hem op, dat dus als Red Bull Holden door het leven ging en dat leverde Shane weer mogelijkheden op om bv in de Le Mans Series, de GT3 of de 12 uur van Bathurst op te draven. Ik ben hem zelfs eens op de Ring tegengekomen bij de 24uur al daar. Aardige vent en net als Max een multitalent.
