Daniel Ricciardo: "Gewoon trainen productiever dan simracen"

Renault-coureur Daniel Ricciardo is niet van plan om zich bij zijn simracende collega's te voegen. Onder andere Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Alexander Albon, Lando Norris en sinds vorige week zelfs Sebastian Vettel proberen hun racescherpte te behouden door online te racen.

Maar dat is niks voor Ricciardo. De Australiër gaat liever fysiek aan de slag. Bovendien heeft hij op de boerderij van zijn ouders in thuisland Australië volop de ruimte om zich niet thuis op te sluiten en gaat hij gereld op verkenning door de omgeving. Daar vermaakt hij zich prima mee.

Het is ook uit zelfbescherming dat hij niet aan simraces meedoet, bekende Ricciardo in The New Daily. "Ik weet gewoon dat ik met mijn competitieve aard uren per dag in zo'n simulator zou zitten, als ik er een zou hebben. Voor je het weet, mis ik daardoor trainingssessies. En ik ben van mening dat gewoon ouderwets trainen productiever is dan simracen."

Ik zou ook veel liever heerlijk van de natuur genietend bij mijn familie willen zijn dan in een of ander belastingparadijsje computerspelletjes aan het spelen zijn.
