Kevin Magnussen: "Ik ben niet de enige die over de schreef gaat"

Haas F1-coureur Kevin Magnussen is de voorbije jaren meermaals het mikpunt geweest van kritiek van collega's. Zo kreeg hij het aan de stok met Nico Hülkenberg - die Magnussen de meest onsportieve rijder op de grid noemde - en ook Fernando Alonso heeft een appeltje te schillen gehad met de Deen.

Maar hij is echt niet de enige die de grenzen van het toelaatbare opzoekt en daar wel eens overheen gaat, geeft Magnussen in een Instagram-interview met Formula1.com aan. "Er zijn inderdaad coureurs geweest die moeite hadden met mijn manier van rijden en daar ook over geklaagd hebben. Ik ben de eerste om toe te geven dat ik wel eens over de schreef ga, maar denk niet dat ik daarin de enige ben."

"Weet je wat het is, de afgelopen seizoenen heb ik in de middenmoot moeten knokken. En als je elfde ligt en de tiende plek ligt voor het grijpen of je moet je tiende plaats juist verdedigen, dan staat er een punt op het spel en heb je eigenlijk niets te verliezen. Ik heb zware duels om P10 uitgevochten en sommige gingen over de grens."

"Dat is hoe ik ernaar kijk. Je moet de limiet opzoeken, maar er net niet overheen gaan. Maar je moet met je rijstijl absoluut de grenzen benaderen. Het is belangrijk om niet over de schreef te gaan, maar soms is de limiet lastig te vinden. Het is echter beter om net onder de grens te blijven dan om er overheen te gaan."

Zeker in de jaren waarin Mercedes aan de horizon verdween en er aan de top weinig gebeurde, kon hij soms de saaie races opfleuren met wat harde gevechten. Het is niet altijd even chique wat hij doet, maar het is wel een echte racer.

Het is een knokker. Niet de beste coureur en ook niet de snelste of de slimste maar wel een vechter.
Als het allemaal te ver gaat dan is het aan de wedstrijdleiding om in te grijpen. Dat valt over het algemeen nog wel mee dus ik zie het probleem ook niet echt. Hij is in iedergeval meer racer dan een Bottas of Grosjean.

Ik mag 'm wel. En via het Netflix gebeuren ook nog van n beetje dichterbij leren kennen en dat heeft de gunfactor alleen maar aangewakkerd. :-)

  Het zegt natuurlijk wel wat dat hij kennelijk denkt dat hij zijn streken nodig heeft. Zo goed zijn zijn resultaten overigens niet, dus wat hij er nu precies mee denkt te winnen...
  
  In een ver verleden heb ik in de detailhandel gewerkt en daar was ook een collega die constant een loopje met de feiten nam om het product maar aan de man te brengen. Ik vond het altijd maar een zwaktebod en hij werkte zichzelf onnodig vaak in de nesten. En idd, zo goed waren zijn resultaten ook niet. Maar vervolgens had hij wel altijd het nadeel van de twijfel als er iets niet in de haak was, zelfs als hij gelijk had.
  
  Maar idd Clemenza, het was wel één van de figuren die de zaak kleur gaf! ;-)
