Jean Todt verlengt functie mogelijk met twaalf maanden

De huidige FIA-president, Jean Todt, lijkt die functie ook na afloop van zijn huidige termijn te blijven bekleden. De Fransman is bezig aan zijn derde en laatste termijn, dat eind 2021 afloopt.

Na deze termijn als voorzitter moet er normaal gesproken een nieuwe president worden gekozen. Hierbij kan Todt zich niet verkiesbaar stellen, drie termijnen is het maximum voor een FIA-president. Andere namen namen als Luca di Montezemolo, David Richards, Formula E-baas Alejandro Agag en Mohammed bin Sulayem zijn reeds in verband gebracht met de positie van Todt.

Door het coronavirus lijkt de FIA nu een uitzondering te maken. De baas heeft aangegeven dat hij vanwege uitzonderlijke omstandigheden graag zijn contract verlengt voor één jaar. De FIA kan deze aanvraag weigeren en een nieuwe man aanwijzen, maar het Italiaanse Automoto beweert nu dat, gezien de omstandigheden, de positie van Todt als FIA-president zal worden verlengd met nog eens 12 maanden.

Jean Todt stond op het punt om opgevolgd te worden door Agag, de huidige Formule E-baas. Hij stond volgens Paolo Ciccarone op pole position om de functie te bemachtigen. "Zijn werk in de Formule E, zijn relaties met de fabrikanten en zijn directe onderhandelingen met regeringen zorgen ervoor dat hij alle ideale eigenschappen bezit", zei Ciccarone.

Als Jean Todt inderdaad zijn verblijf bij de FIA verlengt, zal hij in 2022 een vervanger toegewezen krijgen.

Begrijpelijk dat de termijn van Jean Todt wordt verlengd totdat deze crisis achter de rug is.

Volgens mij is het overigens nog lang niet zeker dat dat betweterige menneke van de FE de nieuwe FIA-voorzitter wordt.

Als voorstander van de FE moet ik zeggen dat er organisatorisch nog veel fout gaat. Het grote budget maskeert het amateurisme en de circuits worden natuurlijk vermeden ivm a) het engagement van het publiek, maar vooral b) om niet door de mand te vallen tov bijv een F3-auto, maar ik ben vooralsnog absoluut niet weggeblazen door deze behoorlijk gehypete klasse. Met je fanboost.

1 termijn is lang zat, dan weer een andere FIA President, nu krijg ik het idee dat er een soort Poetin constructie gemaakt wordt en dat hij er over 10 jaar nog zit.

Ja het is een bijzondere tijd. Maar dat wil niet zeggen dat Todt gekwalificeerder is dan zijn opvolger, wie dat ook mag zijn, om de FIA door deze crisis te leiden. Wat mij betreft is er geen reden om een uitzondering te maken, hij heeft zijn beurt gehad.

  Het is gewoon een manier om zeker te stellen dat de “FIA/Ferrari schikking“ tot eind 2022 geheim blijft. Daarna is het allemaal mosterd na de maaltijd en is het overgewaaid.
  Uiteraard gaat de FIA hier probleemloos mee akkoord.
  Todt is de Sepp Blatter van de F1.
