Preview: GP2-coureurs beginnen strijd op weg naar de Formule 1

Komend weekend gaat het nieuwe GP2-seizoen van start op Istanbul Park in Turkije. Er zal negen raceweekenden worden gestreden om de ereplaatsen met als uiteindelijke doel de Formule 1 te bereiken. F1Today.nl blikt vooruit op het nieuwe seizoen en belicht onder andere de kanshebbers voor de titel en de nieuwe rijders.

Het rijdersveld
Dit seizoen staan er 26 coureurs aan de start. Echter, Super Nova moet de teamgenoot van Fairuz Fauzy nog bevestigen. Kampioensteam Rapax staat met een geheel nieuwe rijders line-up aan de start van het nieuwe seizoen. Kampioen Pastor Maldonado is gepromoveerd naar de Formule 1, terwijl zijn teamgenoot Luiz Razia vertrokken is naar het nieuwe AirAsia-team. Dit jaar nemen Fabio Leimer en Julian Leal de honeurs waar voor Rapax.

[LEFT_IMG=9806][/LEFT_IMG]Verder heeft ook Giedo van der Garde, die wederom voor Addax zal racen, een nieuwe teamgenoot gekregen. De Nederlander racet dit seizoen naast Charles Pic, vorig jaar nog uitkomend voor Arden International. Romain Grosjean, die voordat hij in 2009 Nelsinho Piquet bij Renault verving in de race was voor de GP2-titel, keert terug bij DAMS. Zowel Jerome D'Ambrosio als Ho-Pin Tung zijn daar vertrokken en de Fransman wil een gooi doen naar de titel, zeker nu hij het korte Asia-seizoen al op zijn naam wist te schrijven. Enkele nieuwe gezichten zijn Kevin Mirocha (Ocean), Formule 2 vice-kampioen Jolyon Palmer, Superleague Formula-kampioen Davide Rigon en Mikhail Aleshin. Het is echter nog niet zeker of Aleshin het hele seizoen in actie komt vanwege sponsorproblemen.

Wat en wie zijn er nieuw in 2011?
Zoals al gezegd staan er enkele nieuwe coureurs aan de start van het GP2-seizoen. Om precies te zijn staan er acht debutanten aan de start: Leal, Gutierrez, Verhaug, Kral, Palmer, Rigon, Mirocha [RIGHT_IMG=10305]Mikhail Aleshin[/RIGHT_IMG]en Aleshin. Daarnaast zijn er twee compleet nieuwe teams op de grid te bewonderen: Carlin Motorsport en Team AirAsia.

Carlin heeft ervoor gekozen om met één ervaren rijder en een debutant aan het seizoen te beginnen, terwijl AirAsia met twee ervaren coureurs van start gaat. Laatst genoemde team maakte tijdens de wintertests zelfs een erg goede indruk. Zij kunnen echter niet als realistische kanshebber worden gezien voor de titel. Daar lijken Barwa, Lotus ART en Rapax de favorieten voor te zijn. Outsiders zijn Racing Engineering, DAMS en iSport International.

Kalender 2011
Dit seizoen wordt er geracet op dezelfde negen circuits als in 2010, alleen Abu Dhabi is van de kalender gehaald. Deze maakt nu deel uit van het Asia-seizoen. Een week na Turkije gaan de rijders door naar het Spaanse Barcelona en twee weken later vind de meest prestigieuze race plaats in Monaco. Verder zullen de race in Spa-Francorchamps en Monza een hoogtepunt worden van het seizoen, zeker gezien het feit dat daar waarschijnlijk het kampioenschap beslist gaat worden.

Is er iemand die weet waar de GP2-races tegenwoordig live worden uitgezonden. Verleden op eurosport geweldig om naar te kijken.
