Minimumgewicht Formule 1-auto's voor 2021 weer omhoog

Het minimumgewicht van de Formule 1-auto's wordt voor volgend jaar verder verhoogd. RaceFans.net bericht dat de wagens in 2021 minimaal 749 kilo moeten wegen. Het minimumgewicht bedraagt dit jaar nog 746 kilo.

De verhoging is ingegeven door zorgen die leven bij de motorleveranciers en teams. De motorleveranciers zijn bang dat gewichtsbesparingen juist zorgen voor een wedloop op exotische en duurdere materialen. En sommige teams vrezen dat ze dit jaar al boven het minimumgewicht blijven steken.

De voorbije weken en maanden hebben diverse coureurs zich beklaagd over het hoge minimumgewicht voor Formule 1-bolides. De auto's zijn logge bakbeesten vergeleken met de wendbare wagens van begin dit millennium. Sportief directeur Ross Brawn heeft daar geen boodschap aan. "We willen allemaal lichtere auto's, maar sommige dingen zijn gewoon niet terug te draaien."

2022

Voor 2022 zou het minimumgewicht nog veel hoger uit kunnen vallen, meldt RaceFans.net. De ingrijpende reglementswijzigingen gaan gepaard met de introductie van strengere crashtests, waardoor de crashstructuur zwaardere klappen moet kunnen incasseren. Het minimumgewicht zou hierdoor kunnen stijgen naar 778 kilo.

    Lachwekkend. In de jaren 80 was het 540kg. Als ze meer inhaalacties willen zou een lager gewicht ook wel helpen. Een IndyCar is geloof ik zelfs nog lichter nu.

    Komt ook door die batterijen voor die overgecompliceerde motoren van nu, nog een reden om terug te gaan naar echte motoren ;)

    Lachwekkend en te triest. Iedereen klaagt en wil lichtere auto’s, maar het tegenovergestelde gebeurt.

    Als ze gewoon licht mogelijke wagens bouwen kan je de autos beetje met gewicht verder fine tunen :)

    Richting de 800 kilo is echt onacceptabel. Ook dit is een manier om de sport zoals wij die wij kennen langzaam om zeep te helpen.
    Weet nog wel hoe we vroeger in de jaren 90 de Indycars uitlachten omdat ze flink zwaarder waren en warempel nu rijden we zelf bijna in die Indycars!
