Daimler ontkent dat Toto Wolff stapje terug doet bij Mercedes

Mercedes-moederbedrijf Daimler heeft het bericht dat reeds vaststaat dat Toto Wolff na dit jaar stopt als teambaas van Mercedes tegengesproken. Volgens F1-Insider.com zou de Oostenrijker reeds de beslissing hebben genomen om na dit jaar een stapje terug te doen. Wolff zou de post van teambaas verlaten en toetreden tot de raad van toezicht bij de Duitse renstal.

Niets van waar, aldus een woordvoerder van Daimler tegenover persbureau DPA. "Toto is en blijft onze teambaas, ook na dit seizoen." Dat laatste valt nog maar te bezien, aangezien het contract van Wolff bij Mercedes na dit jaar afloopt en hij zelf reeds aangegeven dat hij er nog niet uit is of en in welke hoedanigheid hij bij het team betrokken blijft.

Volgens F1-Insider zijn Wolff en zijn vriend Lawrence Stroll van plan om meer aandelen in het team van Mercedes te nemen. Dit zou min of meer het einde van het fabrieksteam van het Duitse merk betekenen. Stroll is eigenaar van het team van Racing Point en nam eerder dit jaar een belang in de Britse autofabrikant Aston Martin, waar ook Wolff in investeerde. Er gaan al langer geruchten dat de twee de krachten bundelen om een nieuw machtsblok in de Formule 1 te vormen.

Mercedes blijft

Daimler blijft met Mercedes actief in de Formule 1, zo luidt de boodschap van het merk aan GPFans.com. "Gespeculeer over een potentieel afscheid van de Formule 1 blijft ongefundeerd en onverantwoord. De sport heeft de juiste stappen ondernemen om de coronacrisis te lijf te gaan en een financieel levensvatbare toekomst tegemoet te gaan, wij verwelkomen deze maatregelen. Het is absoluut onze intentie om met het fabrieksteam van Mercedes in de Formule 1 door te gaan en dat te doen met Toto Wolff aan het roer."

  Wolff en zijn vriend Lawrence Stroll zijn dus van plan om meer aandelen in het team van Mercedes te nemen en dit zou dan min of meer het einde van het fabrieksteam van het Duitse merk betekenen.
  Dit is dus geen overstap van Wolff, maar een geleidelijke overname door Stroll, waarbij Wolff op zijn plek zou kunnen blijven en alleen op een bepaald moment een ander bord op de gevel gaat hangen, namelijk die van Aston Martin, Racing Point of iets in de combinatie ervan.

Toto heeft misschien nood aan een nieuwe uitdaging, ook als is er elk jaar weer staan ook een hele opdracht.

De man won zowat alles wat er te winnen valt en Stroll zal wel zwaaien met 'dikke flappen en bijkomende aandelen". RP heeft een lange termijn plan met AM, iets wat nog onzeker is bij Mercedes als fabrieksteam.
Tegelijk las ik dat Mercedes zonet nog wat extra mensen aantrok, zo ook van Ferrari...wat dat dan weer tegenspreekt.

Benieuwd wat de heer Wolff gaat gaan doen.

  Als Mercedes volk van Ferrari heeft aangetrokken is dat alleen maar meer een bevestiging dat Wolff het niet langer meer ziet zitten bij Merc lijkt mij ;)

Ja hehe, ze hebben dan ook weinig keus dan he. Zo lang er niks rond is, of zelfs als het rond is en ze willen het nog niet naar buiten brengen, moeten ze het wel ontkennen.
Wolff gaat na dit seizoen weg bij Mercedes, Hamilton stopt en wordt Hollywood acteur en Mercedes stapt zeer waarschijnlijk uit de F1.
