Extra Europese races pas een optie als andere races afvallen

De Formule 1 koestert op dit moment geen concrete plannen om meer dan acht Grands Prix in Europa te houden. Dat verkondigde sportief directeur Ross Brawn aan Racefans.net. De koningsklasse van de autosport kondigde vorige week een voorlopige versie van de herziene kalender voor 2020 aan. Het betrof een schema met acht races in Europa. De rest van het rooster volgt nog.

Daarbij kijkt de Formule 1 in eerste instantie naar andere werelddelen. Pas als een beoogde Grand Prix wegvalt, behoort een extra race in Europa tot de mogelijkheden. Brawn: "Het is op dit moment niet ons plan om meer Europese Grands Prix te doen, maar het zou wel kunnen. Ik zeg niet dat het niet gaat gebeuren, maar het is niet onze intentie. Plan A is acht races in Europa en we hopen binnenkort duidelijkheid te geven over hoe het overzeese deel van het seizoen eruit gaat zien."

Circuits als Mugello en de Hockenheimring moeten dus in de wachtkamer plaatsnemen. Brawn vervolgt: "Het model dat we gebruiken voor de Europese Grands Prix is anders dan het model dat we voorheen gebruikten, aangezien fans de races niet mogen bijwonen. Dat biedt ruimte om ook naar andere circuits te gaan, zoals Mugello, Hockenheim, Imola of Jerez. Er zijn verschillende mogelijkheden en we kijken overal naar."

"Een race op een van deze banen kan op korte termijn op poten worden gezet, aangezien de organisatie zich niet hoeft te bekommeren om kaartverkoop of andere gecompliceerde zaken. En met een permanent circuit is het relatief eenvoudig om alles in gereedheid te brengen voor een Grand Prix. Met stratencircuits is dat toch een compleet ander verhaal. We hebben dus een aantal opwindende Europese banen achter de hand voor het geval er nog Grands Prix afvallen."

Ik heb ook gemist wat precies de afweging was om Zandvoort zonder publiek niet door te laten gaan. En ja ik heb horen zeggen dat Zandvoort zonder publiek niet zo leuk is, maar dat geldt voor iedere Grand Prix.

Ik snap eigenlijk nog steeds niet dat Zandvoort van een race zonder publiek afziet. In september en zelfs oktober kan hier nog prima geracet woorden qua weer. Ik heb kaarten, maar dat Oranjefeest kan ik nog wel een jaar uitstellen. Ik wil dat prachtige circuit inmiddels wel eens in actie zien.

  Nou, dat lijkt me niet heel moeilijk te snappen.
  
  De heren in Zandvoort zullen wel een business plan op basis van 3 contraxtjaren gemaakt hebben. Als de inkomsten van publiek dan in een van die 3 jaar wegvalt zullen ze wel een fors verlies leiden.

  Jan had te vroeg z'n gaspedaal ingedrukt door te zeggen dat Zandvoort zonder publiek een no-go is, is daarbij in een spin omdat Liberty het heeft gehoord en kon het daarna niet meer recht lullen... Zoiets, maar dan in een notendop
