Toto Wolff: "Geen zekerheid dat ik volgend jaar nog teambaas ben"

Toto Wolff is de teambaas van het dominantste Formule 1-team van de afgelopen jaren. Onder zijn leiding pakt het Duitse Mercedes vrijwel ieder jaar twee titels. Toch weet de Oostenrijker niet of hij na 2020 nog teambaas is in de Formule 1.

Twee maanden geleden kocht hij tevens aandelen Austin Martin, dat volgend jaar ook haar eigen Formule 1-team heeft aangezien het de plek van Racing Point overneemt. Sinds dat moment is Wolff in gesprek met Daimler. CEO Ola Kallenius voert de gesprekken met Wolff over zijn toekomst bij Mercedes. Volgens bronnen is Kallenius niet perse een fan van het F1-team van Mercedes, net als dat hij en Toto Wolff niet altijd door één deur kunnen.

Toen de krant Osterreich hem vroeg naar de situatie zei Wolff hierover: "Ik blijf sowieso tot het einde van dit seizoen bij Mercedes als teambaas. Ik ben nu echter aan mijn achtste jaar bezig en we hebben 6 keer de titel gewonnen. Ik vraag mijzelf ook vaak af of ik nog steeds de beste man ben voor deze positie."

"Is mijn motivatie nog steeds hetzelfde als voorheen? Krijg ik er nog steeds genoeg positieve energie uit? Wat ik wil voorkomen is dat van 'heel goed' naar 'goed' ga en de prestaties minder worden."

    Die is ondertussen druk bezig het personeelsbestand uit te pluizen naar aflopende contracten en clausules. Dat reisje naar Silverstone zal ook wel goed benut zijn de afgelopen week :)

      Denk het niet Schwantz.
      Zijn moeder is blank maar hij koos er tot nu toe voor om zich als pikzwart voor te doen.
      Als BLM straks meer tegenstand krijgt en negatief in het nieuws blijft komen dan kiest hij waarschijnlijk voor zijn blanke kant en maakt een herstart. Bottas 4.0 vs Lewis 2.0

    Toto is op zoek naar een nieuwe grotere uitdaging. Dus ik denk niet dat hij teambaas wordt van Aston Martin als hij weg gaat bij Mercedes.
    Ik denk dat hij eerder het baantje van Chase Carey gaat overnemen of iets minder waarschijnlijk het baantje van Jean Todt.

      Dat klopt Rimmer, maar dat stokje was nog voor de fiarrari deal.

      kan dus goed zijn dat Toto gezegd heeft, ok jullie niet meer dwarsliggen dan hoef ik niet meer de onderste steen boven van die deal tussen jullie

    Misschien een gekke gedachte maar is Toto niet gewoon bezig met Williams? Hij heeft de aandelen en heeft een zwak voor het team van Williams. Bij Racing Point heeft Lawrence te dulden en bij Williams is die de absolute baas. De funding heeft die en de uitdaging ook indien die hier voor kiest.
