De la Rosa: "Fernando Alonso is net Lionel Messi"

Fernando Alonso is de laatste weken weer in het nieuws te vinden. Misschien onbedoeld, maar niet geheel onverwacht aangezien er een stoeltje bij Renault is vrijgekomen nu Daniel Ricciardo aan het eind van 2020 vertrekt. En zodra er een stoeltje bij Renault vrij komt wordt daar altijd de naam van Alonso aan gekoppeld door zijn twee wereldkampioenschappen met de Franse fabrikant.

Daarnaast wordt hij nu ook in verband gebracht met een mogelijk stoeltje bij Aston Martin. Het team dat nu nog racet onder de naam Racing Point, maakte afgelopen winter indruk met hun 'roze Mercedes'. Veel zal dan ook afhangen van de prestaties die het team de komende weken neer zal zetten en of het de verwachtingen waar kan maken.

Alonso destructief voor team

Pedro de la Rosa zag in 2007 van dichtbij hoe destructief Alonso kan zijn voor een team. De la Rosa was toen actief als testrijder voor McLaren en zag de strijd tussen Lewis Hamilton en Alonso steeds heviger worden. Pedro is echter een grote fan van Alonso en hoopt terug dat zijn landgenoot terugkeert in de F1.

''Eerlijk gezegd heb ik geen idee of hij terugkomt. Het is een persoonlijke beslissing die hij moet nemen, maar ik hoop dat hij terugkomt en dat heb ik hem verteld. De beste coureurs moeten in F1 rijden. Een uitzonderlijke coureur kan altijd iets extra's doen met een Formule 1-auto'', zegt De la Rosa tegen Marca.

Vergelijking met Lionel Messi

De la Rosa vergelijkt het met voetbal. "Het is alsof Lionel Messi naar Granada gaat. Met alle respect, ik heb liever dat hij daar voetbalt dan dat hij niet actief is in Spanje of dat hij zaalvoetbal speelt. Ik voel hetzelfde met Fernando", besluit hij De la Rosa die wellicht positief is over een stap naar Renault.

  Wordt niks meer. Fernando was een toprijder maar dat geldt alleen zolang je er nog midden in het ritme en races zit.
  Twee jaar eruit is gewoon klaar op die leeftijd. Was hij nou 31 dan had het nog gekund maar de echte scherpte, honger en vechtlust is er gewoon vanaf. Zet hem dan ook nog in een RP of Renault waarmee hij voor de restjes kan vechten en een kind kan zien dat het geen grote comeback meer wordt, het is klaar.

Laat het maar gewoon gebeuren dan. Laat hem maar een rentree maken zodat de jonge generatie hen de oren kan wassen en we het hoofdstuk FA definitief kunnen sluiten.

Zijn commentaar tijdens en na de race is in elk geval een stuk interessanter dan dat van o.a. LH, dus alleen daarom al mag hij nog een kans krijgen van mij.
